Mr. William (Pina) Lewis, Sr., of Milledgeville, Georgia departed this life on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at Navicent Health Baldwin Milledgeville, Georgia.

William was born to the parentage of Ms. Rosa Tatum and the late Mr. David Harden. He was reared by his beloved mother, Mrs. Rosa M. Lewis and the late Mr. Tommie L. Lewis. Besides his fathers, William was predeceased by one sister, Evelyn Harden.

William’s earliest years of education commenced in the public schools of Detroit, Michigan. In later years, the family relocated to Georgia, where William continued his education and graduated from J.F. Boddie High School, Class of 1965. William was among the first group of African American students to attend the once segregated Georgia College, Milledgeville, GA. He was drafted into the U. S. Army in service to his country.

William enjoyed sports, music was his favorite pastime, and he enjoyed playing the saxophone. He also had a love for dogs and cats, hunting and fishing, all hobbies that he enjoyed doing with his father. Mr. Lewis loved to cook and perfected his skills while serving in the U.S. Army. In later years, William was certified as a chef and for a number of years, he was employed in that position at Central State Hospital. William was a certified carpenter. He loved to build new as well as renovate an old structure. He was the family’s freelance photographer when traveling.

William always had a deeper outlook on life and would encourage everyone to do their very best in life. William held membership in Oak Grove Baptist Church where he served on the Usher’s Board. Of his family, he especially loved his children and his little sister, Carolyn and loved to bossed around his two first cousins, Vickie and Howard.

As we surrender our loved one into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father, those left to share his memories are: his wife, Mrs. Debra Lewis; children, Darryl Lewis, William Lewis, Jr. and Sharon Lewis, all of Milledgeville, GA; mother, Mrs. Rosa M. Lewis of Milledgeville, GA; step children, Alexander Young, Jr., Debreka Young, both of Milledgeville, GA, and Arsenio (Elise) Young of Macon, GA; sister, Carolyn Lewis Driskell of Milledgeville, GA; brothers, Willie Harden of New York, Charles Harden and Calvin Harden, both of Milledgeville, GA; five grandchildren, Daija, Shaneria, Jasmin, Chaztin, and Kameron; four step grandchildren, Alaishia, Kailey, Carson, and JaKobe; eight great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; five sisters-in-law, Naomi Dixon of Delray Beach, FL, Mamie (Charles) Pierce of Newark, NJ, Maxine Hampton, Juanita (Jimmy) Devero, Mary Outlaw of Wrightsville, GA, Christine Willey of Greenwood, SC; three brothers-in-law, Jerry (Barbara) Wiley of Newark, NJ, Kenneth Wiley of Dublin, GA, and Rickey (Marylene) Wiley of Tennille, GA. William also leaves countless other relatives to include, aunts and uncle, nieces and nephews, cousins and a countless number of friends.
