It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater’s Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Mrs. Virginia Hitchcock Broadnax, 76, of New Jersey. Mrs. Broadnax passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 2:00 PM from the Pine Ridge Baptist Church, Milledgeville, Georgia. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Virginia Broadnax, affectionately known as “nana” & “ginia” passed away January 3, 2022
Virginia was born July 31, 1945 in Milledgeville, Georgia. She was the youngest child of the late Frank and Josephine Hitchock.
Virginia attended Milledgeville public schools, Boddie high school. After a joyful youth, Virginia recalls “I had to get up out of there”. She then left the country for the small town of Morristown, NJ; Where she stayed with her beloved sister Eunice and helped babysit her nieces and nephews.
She then relocated to Summit, NJ where she married Stafford Broadnax. Virginia had 3 kids whom she loved dearly. She began working at Overlook Hospital where she retired after a long but joyous 44 years. She then went on to Pennsylvania where she spent the last of her years with her loving daughter and grandkids.
Virginia leaves to cherish her memory; her daughter Regina Stokes, of East Stroudsburg, PA; two sons: Elrees Broadnax, of Union, NJ and Anthony Broadnax, of Atlanta GA; nine grandchildren: Latia Broadnax, Stephen Coleman, Donté Stokes, of East Stroudsburg, PA, Taylor Broadnax, Peyton Broadnax, Bryce Broadnax, of Atlanta, GA; Nicholas Broadnax, Jayleah Broadnax, of Union, NJ; sister, Eunice Simmons, of Morristown, NJ; brother, George Hitchcock; sister-in-law, Beatrice Hitchcock; five nieces: Sandra Webb, Sabrina Marcus, Patricia Hackett, Felicia Marcus, Frances Simmons; four nephews: Shurod Marcus, Robert Simmons, Michael Simmons, and Bruce Simmons; She also leaves behind a host of adored great nieces & nephews; as well as a great deal of other family and friends including her dear and special friend, Katherine White.
