Obituary

It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater's Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Mr. Tommy Lee Allen, formerly of Milledgeville, Georgia. Mr. Allen passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 11:00AM from the Mitchell Zion Baptist Church, Milledgeville, Georgia. Interment to follow.

Tommy Lee Allen was born in Milledgeville, GA on October 7, 1948, to the parentage of the late Mr. Andrew and Fannie Mae Allen. He was reared in a loving and spirit-filled home five other siblings, of which two of them, JayCee Allen and Andrew Allen Jr., that preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Sadie Mae Edmonds-Allen, who he married on December 27, 1980.

Lee, as Tommy, was known by most friends and family members, attended Baldwin County Public Schools and was a drum major for the Body High School Marching Band. Lee spent most of his life in Milledgeville, with brief periods in Atlanta, GA. He worked for the Freeport Kaolin Company and with Meadows Industries, Incorporated.

At an early age, Lee joined Mitchell Zion Baptist Church. His spiritual journey consisted of singing, praying, and fellowshipping with church family and friends. He became a member of the family group, the Piney Grove Junior Spiritual Singers, where he sang and played the guitar. He also played with other local groups and spiritual groups as well. He had hopes to one day become a recording artist and enjoyed singing to all kinds of music and on a whim, bursting into songs with a smile and a ‘nod’. He was a kind and giving person.

Later in life, Lee enjoyed spending time with his aunt Emma and cousin Tonzo.

Lee’s health issues over the years increased and he was eventually moved to Lake City Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. In Rex, Georgia. On May 20, 2023, Lee was called home at Piedmont Henry County Hospital to enter eternal rest and join his wife, brothers, mother, and father when he succumbed to several strenuous and difficult battles. His road here on earth had ended, but his heavenly and glorious journey had just begun.

Lee leaves cherished memories to two sons, Kirk Denard Allen of College Park, GA, Tommy Lee Allen, Jr. of Milledgeville, GA; one stepson, Michael Anthony Francis, Sr. of Milledgeville, GA; one daughter, Consuelo Denise Walker (Daniel) of Douglasville, GA; two brothers, Leroy Allen (Dorothy) of Milledgeville, GA and John Willie Allen of Riverdale, GA; one sister, Mamie Finley of Riverdale, GA; five aunts, Mrs. Emma Wilson, Mrs. Nellie Beckom, Mrs. Fannie Mae Allen, Mrs. Viola Willis, all of Milledgeville, GA and Mrs. Annie Lee Allen of Newnan, GA; two granddaughters, Jereseya (Shay) Freeman and Ayliah Simone Allen; devoted nephews and niece, Dereck Adams (Debra), Frederico Adams (Felicia), Travis Finley, Earl Finley Jr., Fred Allen, and Elaine Steele; along with a host of cousins and friends of whom all share in rejoicing his life and memories.
