Tommie Edwards

It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater's Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Mr. Tommie Edwards, Milledgeville, Georgia. Mr. Edwards passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023.

Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at 1:00PM from the Flag Chapel Baptist Church, Milledgeville, Georgia. Interment to follow from the Scenic Memorial Gardens, Milledgeville, Georgia. 

Mr. Tommie Lee Edwards was born November 17, 1958, in Sparta, GA, to the parentage of the late Sammie Edwards and Mrs. Mamie Forney Edwards.

He was educated in the Hancock County Public School System, graduating in 1976. He enlisted in the United States Army for a period of three years. He later joined the Georgia National Guard, serving in Operation Desert Storm.

Tommie began working at Charter Communications in 1980. He pursued a higher education at Georgia Military College and Oconee Fall Line Technical College. He later pursued a career at the Georgia Department of Correction until his retirement in 2018.

Mr. Edwards departed this life on March 13, 2023. Tommie was preceded in death by his father, Sammie Lee Edwards, sister, Carolyn Edwards Simmons.

He leaves to cherish his memories, wife, Joanne Edwards; sons, SFC Tommie L. Edwards, Jr. (Jessie) of Naple, Italy, JaVontae Edwards (Leighanna) of Kennesaw, GA; two daughters, LaTonya Brookins of Milledgeville, GA, KaTina Heath of Sparta, GA; mother, Mamie Edwards of Milledgeville, GA; two brothers, George Edwards of Milledgeville, GA, Alvin Edwards (Vivian) of Augusta, GA. He was a devoted granddad to his seven grandchildren, Javian Brookins, Riley Edwards, Sean Edwards, Jayce Edwards, Uriah Edwards, Tajj Edwards, Lunden Edwards; He also leaves cherished memories to his aunts, Jessie Mae Hawkins and Emma Moore of Milledgeville, GA; uncles, Jessie Roberson of Sparta, GA, Frank Forney (Edna) and Charlie Forney, both of Milledgeville, GA, Willie Forney of Sparta, GA; nieces and nephews, Sherkeya Reeves, Analdo Reeves, Kenneth Ward, Tyler Edwards, DeVantae Edwards, Sarah Johnson, Eric Jordan, Lanquelin Butts; devoted cousins, Frank Edwards and Leo Edwards, both of Milledgeville, GA; devoted friends, Milton Devereaux, Steve Meriweather, Danny McDuffie, and Curtis Ivory.
