It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater's Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Mr. Terry Nickelson, Milledgeville, Georgia. Mr. Nickelson passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Navicent Health Baldwin, Milledgeville, Georgia.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at 11:00 AM from the Victory Baptist Church, Milledgeville, GA. Interment to follow from the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Milledgeville, Georgia.
Terry James Nickelson known affectionately as “Nick” was born on September 1, 1954, to James Milton Nickelson and Eula C. Nickelson in Lumpkin, Georgia. Terry was educated in the Stewart County school system and graduated High School in 1972. After graduating Terry worked for the Singer Company in Lumpkin, Georgia until he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on September 1, 1976.
During his time in the uniformed services, he received several accommodations such as, the Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and Rifle Marksman Badge to name a few. Nick served a total of 8 years in the Marine Corps. Upon completion of his tour of duty he chose to settle in Milledgeville, Georgia, this decision was in part, based on a recommendation from a fellow Devil Dog.
Upon arriving in Milledgeville Nick received a job offer from the Georgia Department of Corrections, where he worked for 30 years. After 30 years of service Nick retired, and later began working at Georgia Military College (GMC). During his employment at GMC, he frequently spoke about all the children who attended the school. He sincerely enjoyed being employed with GMC. Nick maintained employment with GMC for 20 years. After 20 years of employment Nick retired, and truly missed working at GMC.
Nick was a member at Faith Christian Church and a member of Masonic Lodge 159. Nick knew no strangers. He enjoyed talking, fishing, traveling, and dancing. Nick was an immaculate dresser. He genuinely loved his family and dearest friends. On November 19, 2022, an angel from heaven came and sealed Terry’s lips and gave him his wings.
Terry leaves to cherish his memories an aunt, Mrs. Sally Gant of Lumpkin, Georgia, two sisters, Ms. Vernette Grant of Milledgeville, Georgia, Mrs. Deloris Collins of Clarksboro, New Jersey, one brother who preceded him in death Mr. Milton Nickelson, two nieces, Mrs. Erica Henry of Loganville Georgia, and Mrs. Tiffany Cantland of Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, cousins, Ms. Pamela Green of Lumpkin, Ga, Mr. Walter C. Thomas of Dallas, Ga, Ms. Barbara Bass of Lumpkin, Georgia, Mrs. Verla Walton of Lumpkin, Georgia, Mr. Eddie Henley who preceded him death, Evangelist Lydia Thomas, closest friends Mr. John Askew of Milledgeville, Georgia, Mr. Ronnie Adams of Milledgeville, Georgia, Mr. Damarcus Thompson of Milledgeville, Georgia, Mrs Eloise Cobb of Sparta, Georgia, longtime life friend Mrs. Gloria Nickelson-Chester, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins as well as friends.
