Sherry Ann Waller Lewis was born in Milledgeville, Georgia, in 1961 to Gladys James Waller and Gus Thomas Waller, Sr. She was the fourth of seven children and grew up in a warm, bustling family. Sherry graduated from Baldwin High School in 1979.
Soon after graduation, she moved to Miami, Florida, where she built a life defined by hard work and determination. She held several assistant management positions in various restaurants and attended Miami Dade Community College for a brief period. During her years in Miami, she married Danny Lewis. Their marriage lasted more than a decade, and although the relationship eventually ended in divorce, Sherry chose to keep her married name.
Sherry was preceded in death by her father and mother, her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Pearl Simpson James; her youngest sister, Mrs. Cynthia Waller Clarke; and her brother, Mr. Ronnie Thomas Collins.
She is survived by her oldest brother, Terrell (Terry) James; her brothers Gregory Collins, Cedric Waller, and Gus Thomas Waller, Jr.; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and associates who will remember her with affection.
A brief service honoring her life was held on March 5, 2026, at Bundrage Cemetery in East Baldwin, Georgia, under the care of Slater’s Funeral Home.
