Shermeriel Hurt Obituary

It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater's Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Ms. Shermeriel Hurt, Eatonton, Georgia. Ms. Hurt passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 11:00 AM from the Flagg Chapel Baptist Church, Milledgeville, Georgia. Interment were held in the Westview Cemetery, Milledgeville, Georgia.

Shermeriel Shonta Hurt-Adams was born on January 21, 1985, to the parentage of Ronald D. Hurt and Mary Lillian Parham Copelan. Shermeriel was a strong-minded child from birth who knew what she wanted at a young age.

Shermeriel received her formative education at the Baldwin County Public School System (Class of 2003) where she excelled academically. She received her spiritual upbringing from New Hope Baptist Church where she was baptized and loved to sing in the junior choir. Upon graduation, Shermeriel attended Paine College in Augusta, Georgia. She received her Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia Military College.

Shermeriel has acquired many accomplishments throughout her life span. She's had various jobs with the Department of Correction, Baldwin County Board of Education SPED, and Oconee Center Behavioral Health Services as a Case Manager.

Her most prized accomplishments were the birth of her two beautiful and intelligent daughters. Every step that she made in life was a contribution to their future. They were her pride and joy, which is why she took the extra mile to ensure that she showed them endless love. While traveling this journey called life, they will always feel and remember the value/morals that were instilled into them.

Family... Family & Friends to Shermeriel was that of a rare Gem. The love that she exemplified towards them never went unnoticed. Her brother, cousins, and close friends were always reminded by her of the deep love of which she carried in her heart for them.

Shermeriel was what many of us would call a free spirit. She undoubtedly lived her life without the care of others' thoughts. There was an energy and aura that surrounded her, which made others gravitate towards it. To know her, was to love her. Her smile was absolutely contagious and could cure anyone's heartache.

She was adventurous and enjoyed time traveling, which broadened her horizons. There was always something new that she would want to experience. Her love for cooking was that of a spirited person, which would bring people together as if you were at your "Grandmother's House". She understood what family was and how her gift of rattling the pots could bring everyone together. While she will be missed, we know and understand that she's now resting. Job well done Queen, job well done.
