Mrs. Sadie Johnson, Orange City, New Jersey passed away on February 3, 2020 in New Jersey.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 11:00 AM from the St. Galilee Baptist Church, Sparta, Georgia. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Early Life... On May 19, 1925 Sadie Johnson was born to Frank and Sallie Boone in Sparta, Georgia. She passed away peacefully at home February 3, 2020. There were nine sisters and brothers Congo Frank Boone, Alton, Boone, Marion Boone, Clyde Boone, Willard Boone, Mabel Boone and Jewel Rives.
Sadie was educated in the Public schools in Hancock County. She graduated from St. Galilee Elementary School and East End High School. She attended Clark University in Atlanta, Georgia with a major in Chemistry. Sadie was reared on a farm, which she loved caring for animals, plants and harvesting food. She was a member of the 4H Club. Nature was one the great influences for her future science career. She often said this is one of her most enjoyable times of her life.
Workforce Career... Sadie was a lifetime science and mathematics professional until the age of 86 yrs. She was a brilliant research chemist at Celanese Corporation in Newark, NJ. One of her great achievements was her invention of the plastic tomato cartons in the 1950s. She was a Chemistry lab professor at Upsala College, East Orange, N.J. and Bloomfield College, Bloomfield, New Jersey. During her tenure, she encouraged countless students to enter into the field of Science. Many of these students later returned to thank her for her great instruction.
Hobbies... Sadie loved to travel domestic and international throughout her life. She especially enjoyed trips that she would take with her daughter and the Church. She loved growing plants, sewing quilts, crafts, reading and listening to music.
Church Service... Sadie was a tireless and obedient servant to God. She was a member of St. Galilee Baptist Church in Sparta, Georgia. She was a lifetime member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Montclair, New Jersey. She was a faithful Deacon for 30 years and served on countless committees. Her dedication to helping people in the community, along with church activities were joyous for her.
Family Life... At the age of 22 years she met and fell in love with Jonas Johnson, Jr. They married in February 1947. They gave birth to one child, Cecelia Cheryl Johnson. Sadie was a very giving and supporting mother to her child and all the rest of the family. She would help anyone if they needed her at all times throughout her life.
