Rosemary Mckibbins Maze Obituary

Rosemary McKibbins Maze returned to her heavenly home on July 31, 2024, after a valiant battle with an extended illness.

Rosemary was born to Ruby and Robert McKibbins in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 23, 1951. She was raised by her maternal grandmother, Fannie Bell White Cooper, who along with her parents, preceded her in death. At an early age, Rosemary joined Springfield Baptist Church, and regularly attended Mt. Olive and Bay Springs Baptist Churches. She was a member of the choir and usher ministry. Growing up, she often worked in her grandmother's restaurant, where she developed her talent of cooking.

She was a member of the Thomas J. Elder School class of 1969, and active with the Washington County Elderite Association, Inc. until her health declined. After high school graduation, Rosemary attended Morris Brown College, but ultimately decided to focus on starting a family. She married Bobby Maze (estranged) and the couple had two daughters.  Rosemary also inherited two bonus sons.

Rosemary learned the power and reward in serving others at an early age and continued throughout her life.  She worked at the Washington County Service Center, where she dedicated time to those with developmental delays. Her servant passion also benefited the Washington County Council on Aging, or Senior Citizen Center, for over a decade. She began as a bus driver and worked her way to director. The bond she had with her seniors was unparalleled.

She was also an active member of several organizations including the LA BON TON Social Club, Order of the Eastern Star, Order of the Golden Circle, and National Black & Professional Women. As a mother, she volunteered with the local school system's band boosters, county 4-H program, and Girl Scouts to support her girls.

Rosemary loved cooking, traveling, shopping, and spending time with her grandchildren and friends. She could often be found talking on the phone, drinking Coca-Cola with extra ice, eating Nilla Wafers, and enjoying a Salem Lights 100. She was also a devoted fan of The Young & The Restless, Knots Landing, Designing Women, Golden Girls, and Dallas.  Rosemary passed her love of music to her daughters. Luther Vandross, Barry White, and The O'Jays were her favorites.

Left to treasure her memory are daughters: LeJuana & Fanisha Maze; granddaughters: AhLuana Mountain, Autumn Maze, Summer Maze; sister: Phyllis Smith; bonus sons: Keith Maze, Clious Brown; sisters-in-law: Gloria (Edison Jr.) Richardson, Dorothy Brown, Geraldine Wilcher, Betty Maze; and a host of friends and extended family.
