It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater's Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Deacon Richard Hurt Jr., Eatonton, Georgia. Deacon Hurt passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.

Graveside services were held on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM from the Wood's Place Cemetery, Eatonton, Georgia.

Richard Hurt Jr., affectionately known as “Si”, was born on January 18, 1944, to the late Mr. Richard Hurt Sr. and the late Mrs. Pauline Dennis Hurt in Putnam County, Georgia.

Richard loved working in his yard, and he also enjoyed all sports.  He even played baseball in his younger years. Wrestling was his favorite, but he would even put that on hold for an episode of The Young and the Restless.

Richard accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Vaughn Chapel Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Usher.

Richard was employed by the Brickyard for 22 years, Engelhard Corporation, McIntyre, Georgia, where he retired after 30 years. He was also a dedicated employee of Blue Stem Brands, Eatonton, GA for ten years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Reginald Wright; two brothers, James Hurt and Rudolph Hurt; four sisters, Marie Hurt, Mary Samuels, Eula Mae Hampton, and Geraldine Strange.

He is survived by his son, Richard (Lisa) Hurt III; daughter, Shonda Houston-Wright, all of Milledgeville, GA; stepson, Gregory Harrison of Eatonton, GA; a devoted companion and friend, Sandra Powell Hurt of Eatonton, GA; two sisters, Ola Bell (Bobby Sr.) Hightower and Geneva (Richard) Hightower; two brothers, Harrison (Willie Mae) Hurt, Willmon (Ruby) Hurt, all of Milledgeville, GA; a host of grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.
