Mrs. Rosa Lee Gendraw Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Rosa Lee Saulsberry-Gendraw, who departed this world peacefully on June 2, 2026, surrounded by her cherished family in Milledgeville, Georgia, at the age of 84. Born on July 9, 1941, in the same nurturing heart of Milledgeville, Rosa was the beloved daughter of Hindel and Arzella Saulsberry, who predeceased her. She was one of two children.

Rosa's journey through life was one marked by love, devotion, and service to others. She was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Sammie Lee Gendraw Sr., with whom she shared 66 years of a beautiful marriage. Married on October 31, 1959, together, they crafted a life rich in love and family. Their union was blessed with two wonderful children who brought Rosa immense joy and pride.

Rosa attended grade school in the Baldwin County School System in her hometown of Milledgeville, Georgia. After high school, she embarked on a fulfilling career as a Health Service Technician at Central State Hospital, where she retired after many years of service caring for others with compassion and grace. In her retirement, Rosa spent her time enjoying the company of her family and friends, cultivating her passion for gardening, sharing her love for cooking, and faithfully trying her luck with the lottery.

Rosa was a pillar of strength and warmth for her family. Her kindness and unconditional love were felt by all who knew her. She was a nurturing mother to Vernita Childs and Sammie Lee Gendraw Jr., a proud grandmother to Aaron Gendraw, Darien Gendraw, Corey Childs, Xavion Gendraw, and a doting great-grandmother to Darien Gendraw Jr. Her legacy of love continues through her brother, Ben Dixon; her nieces, April Thomas and Audra Dixon; her sister-in-law, Christine Newton-Nelson; Children-in-Law, Michael Childs and Marcia Gendraw, and many other loving relatives and friends.

Known for her giving heart, she was a beacon of warmth and generosity. Her home was always open, and she had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcomed and loved. Her legacy of kindness and her selfless spirit will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her.

As we say goodbye to our beloved Rosa Lee Gendraw, we take comfort in knowing that she leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and dedication to family. Her life was a testament to the power of love and kindness, and she will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew and loved her. She now rests securely in the arms of her Savior, having heard the words: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
