Mrs. Gracie Taylor Obituary

It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater's Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Mrs. Gracie Taylor, Milledgeville, Georgia. Mrs. Taylor passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at 11:00 AM from the Rock Mill Baptist Church, Milledgeville, Georgia. Interment will be held from the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Milledgeville, Georgia.

Mrs. Gracie Harper Taylor, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Harper and Jainie Harper, was born October 19, 1939, in Milledgeville, Georgia.

Gracie was joined in holy matrimony for a period of 58 years to the late Mr. Joe B Taylor. She was a graduate of J.F. Boddie High School of Milledgeville, class of 1958 and continued her education at the Baldwin Vocational School of Practical Nursing to achieve the Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) Certification. Gracie tirelessly worked for over 30 years at the Central State Hospital (CSH). After retirement, Gracie continued to use her nursing skills to teach and raise health and medical awareness on several issues plaguing the community. She participated in community blood drives in times of shortages, promoted early cancer detection screenings for men and women and volunteered at the Senior Citizens Home administering blood pressure screenings for the elderly. She was more than health conscious, she had a passion for community and was willing to serve. Gracie was active as a Sister of the AM Boddie 756 Order of Eastern Star and member of Post 523 American Legion Auxiliary dedicated to serving veterans, military, and their families. Through these organizations, she ensured education, meals and companionship to all within their care.

At an early age she joined Union Baptist Church and later united with family at Rock Mill Baptist Church.

Gracie is survived by her children, Joe Taylor and his wife Cotina of Milledgeville, Kelvin Taylor and his wife Milisa of Dumfries, Virginia; her sisters, Laura Brown of Milledgeville, Helen (Eddie) Sibley of Chicago, Illinois; devoted sister-in law, Mary Taylor of Sandersville; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by many family members and friends throughout various communities.
