It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater's Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Mrs. Christene Harris, Sandersville, Georgia. Mrs. Harris passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at 1:00 PM from the New Birth Christian Ministries, 409 Zeta Street, Tennille, Georgia. Interment will follow in the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sandersville.
On August 30, 2022, the saint, sweet spirit of this dear mother went to join the Savior in that home not built with hands, but whose maker and builder is God.
She was the daughter of the late Mr. Fuchious Collins and Imogene Canty Collins. She was born December 16, 1929.
Christene was baptized member of Goergia Baptist Church at six years of age. In 2000 she joined the New Birth Christian Ministries. She served in many ministries including Primary Sunday School Teacher, Greeter Chairman for the Helping Hands Ministry, Intercessory Prayer Ministry, she also served as Mother of the Church.
Mother Harris was educated in the public school system of Washington County. She continued her education at Savannah State. She retired from Washington County Board of Education in 2000. She gave her time loving people. She helped many families in Washington County. She also worked and served in many community organizations, including serving as Director of the Community Action Program in the late 1960s, she served on the board of the NAACP, organized the youth council of the NAACP, Department of Human Resource Division of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse of Georgia.
She was married to the late Samuel Jessie Harris, Sr. This union was blessed with six children: Samuel J. Harris, Jr., Vivian (Ricky) Grant, Jacquelyn Parham, Evelyn Baldwin, Felton Eugene Harris and Charles Edward Harris. She leaves cherished memories to her children, Vivian (Ricky) Grant, Jacquelyn Parham, Evelyn Baldwin, Felton Eugene Harris and Charles Edward Harris; daughter-in-law, Sandy Harris; grandsons, Victor Harris, Andre Harris, Deon Hooks, Nicklous Simmons, Keith Baldwin, Samuel Harris III, Christian Harris, Trey Edwards and Kyle Sutton; one granddaughter, Ionetta Martin; sister, Charity Brown; brothers, McKinley Collins, David Collins, Felton Collins, Jimmy Collins; sisters-in-law, Valetine (Johnnie) Carey, Lillie Mae Harris; devoted friends, Mattie Wright, Dessie Hall, Johnnie Mae Thorton; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
