Mildred Bryant Obituary

Mildred Marie Gray Bryant of Haddock, Georgia was born March 3, 1936, to the late David Crockett Gray, Jr. and the late Carrie Josephine Gray. Mildred quietly answered the calling of her name on March 1, 2025.

Mildred's education includes attending Pine Ridge, a black rural elementary school of Jones County, Georgia. She then went on to attend Macon County Training School; graduated May 23, 1953. She then decided to attend the Fort Valley State College from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education on June 3, 1957. While there, she met her first husband, James Bryant; together they raised three children. Later in life, she was joined in matrimony to the late Willie Hitchcock.

Mildred graciously devoted over 35 years to teaching. Her career started in the school system in Lincolnton, Georgia. She also was a teacher at Maggie Califf Elementary of Gray, Georgia. After dedicating two years at Progressive Christian Academy of Macon, Georgia; she officially retired from teaching.

While being a faithful devoted member of Adams Tabernacle CME Church of Haddock, Georgia, she became a well-respected member of the CME District community. Thus, from the knowledge gained, skills and experience gained; she was an active member of the Usher's Board for over 25 years. She served on the Missionary Board for over 35 years. She was active in the Sunday School Department at Adams Tabernacle CME Church. She gained many accomplishments and was highly acknowledged for her dedication to the CME church community. She also attended Friendship CME Church.

Mildred was also a Worthy Matron of The Order of Eastern Stars Simmons Beauty #187 in Gray, Georgia. She was also a dedicated member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; son, Voris Maurice Bryant; sister, Gloria Gray; grandparents, Will and Ella Adams; and David Crockett Gray, Sr. and Exie Gray; brother-in-law, Allen Williams; cousin, Florine Pryor; nephews, Michael Tinsley, Bryce James and Sandy Butts.

Her memory shall always be cherished by her family. She is survived by her children, Carla Jamette DeJesus of Haddock, GA and Kevin Leon Bryant of New Mexico; four grandchildren, Merika DeJesus of Milledgeville, GA, Kevin Leon Rehberger of Germany; Katherina Christine Bryant, and Voris Maurice Bryant, Jr of Jones County, GA; two great grands, Vorian Javon Nichelle and Amani Jasmine; one sister, Dorothy James of Haddock, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; caregiver, Carol Pounds of Haddock, GA, dearest cousin and best friend, Ellestine Manuel and Gloria Gray of Gray, GA; daughter-in-law, Keith Bryant of Jones County, GA.
