It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater's Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Mr. Merrell Lamar Griswold, Milledgeville, Georgia. Mr. Griswold passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2022.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 17, 2022 at 11:30 AM from the Chapel of All Faiths, Milledgeville, Georgia.
Merrell Lamar Griswold, 32, of Milledgeville, Georgia passed away from this life into eternal life on Sunday, June 5, 2022. Merrell Lamar Griswold, affectionately known as “Rell” was born October 6, 1989 to Melvin Griswold, Sr. and Charlenia Ann Griswold. Merrell spent his early years in Milledgeville, GA, and attended Baldwin County public schools. He was a valued teammate for the Baldwin High School wrestling team and later went on to receive his diploma in 2007. Shortly after he joined the United States Army, where he served as a supply specialist for the First Battalion, 43rd Air Defense Artillery Regiment at Fort Bliss, Texas. During his tenure servitude, he also served at Fort Hood, Texas and deployed to Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. As a result of his selfless service to our nation, Merrell earned the Army achievement medal, NATAMedal, and Iraq Campaign Medal. After his enlistment, Merrell held positions in appliance repair as well as landscaping and professional cleaning.
Merrell had a heart of gold and would give you his last to ensure that those around him went without want. With an infectious personality and unforgettable laugh, he would do his best to brighten the spirit of those in his presence. He loved hard and never placed judgement on anyone that he encountered. What he enjoyed most was spending time with family and friends, along with creating music, spending time outdoors, riding dirt bikes and making sure his vehicles were immaculate.
Merrell Leaves a legacy of lasting memories that his family will forever cherish. He is survived by his wife, Janesia Griswold; his sons, Jeremy Griswold and Merrell Griswold Jr.; his parents: Melvin Griswold Sr. and Charlenia Ann Griswold; his brother: Melvin Griswold Jr.; his sister-in-law, Laura Griswold; his niece and nephew: Mila Griswold and Gabriel Williams; a host of aunties, uncles, cousins, and friends.
