Mr. Melvin Henry Simmons was born June 18, 1958, to the parentage of the late Mrs. Eva Mae Moore Simmons and the late Mr. Henry Lee Simmons.

Melvin transitioned from his earthly home and moved into his heavenly home on Wednesday, October 1, 2025. Melvin received his education in the Baldwin County School System in Milledgeville, Georgia where he was a graduate of the Class of 1976.

 Melvin was well known and loved by many. His infectious smile would light up a room. Even while battling his own illness, he took care of his elderly father for many years. He was also a jack of all trades but especially loved landscaping and purchasing an array of vehicles.

Melvin’s first job was at Ace Hardware where he worked for many years. He later gained employment with the Central State Hospital where he retired with over 30 plus years of dedication.

Melvin was the eldest child of seven and will be remembered lovingly and forever cherished by his six siblings: Edward Simmons (Patricia), Anthony Simmons (Robin), Cara Ann Simmons, Jeanie Simmons, Cedric Simmons and Shantrise Simmons Gibson (Major); his nieces and nephews: Shacara Simmons Roberts (Wesley), Mario Simmons (Crystal), Hendrick Simmons (Ivory), Allison Simmons (Javier), and Patrice Fleming; and his great nieces and nephews: Zy'Keria Paschal, Da'Javious Roberts, Sha'Niya Roberts, Cadon Simmons, Maria Simmons, and Kayden Fleming. He will also be remembered lovingly by six aunts: Mae Bell Harris, Catherine Wright, Aretha Simmons, Carrie Simmons, Ethel Simmons and Geraldine Simmons and two uncles: Lucious Moore (Gail), Leroy Moore. Also left to hold fond memories of Melvin are his best friends: Larry Speights and Juliette Simmons, devoted cousin Jimmy Simmons, and a host of cousins and friends.
