It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater's Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Mrs. Marie S. Burden, Tennille, Georgia. Mrs. Burden passed away on Monday, June 12, 2023.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 2:00 PM from the Union Hill Baptist Church, Tennille, Georgia. Interment  followed. 

Marie Swint Burden was born on April 23rd , 1937 in Mitchell (Glascock County) Georgia to the parentage of the late Mr. Tim Swint and Mrs. Rose Rogers Swint. Mrs. Burden was educated in Mitchell, Georgia, on the Union Hill (Ohoopee) Baptist Church ground, and Tennille schools. Mrs. Burden was united in holy matrimony to the late Eddie Lee (Balk) Burden on December 26th ,1954. To this union, six children were added. She was a seamstress, part-time secretary and childcare worker. Her hobbies included sitting on the porch, reading her Christian books, and cooking. She was notorious for her cooking, especially her sweet potato and buttermilk pies, Brunswick stew, and
cakes. She was an advocate for educating our youth, youth involvement in church, and helping others obtain voting registration eligibility. She was also seen as a second mother to many. Mrs. Burden was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as
Church Secretary, Sunday School and Bible Study Teacher, on the Missionary Auxiliary, Assisted with Vacation Bible School, and Worked with Youth on Easter and Christmas programs. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Eddie Lee (Balk) Burden; one son: Mr. Jerry Burden; four brothers: Mr. Otis Swint, Mr. LC Swint, Mr. Cornelius Swint, and Mr. Nelson Swint; one sister: Mrs. Annie Rose Swint Hill Whipple. Mrs. Marie Burden leaves to cherish her memories: two sons: Mr. Larry (Minister Sharon) Burden and Mr. Eddie Louis (Mary) Burden, Sr., Tennille, GA; three daughters: Ms. Elnora Burden, Ms. Bernestine Burden, and Ms. Kimberly Burden, Tennille, GA; one sister: Ms. Lula Mae Swint, Tennille, GA; seven grandchildren: Mrs. Falencia LaBrandis (Anthony) Strowbridge, Ms. Fayniece Nishone Burden, Mr. LaBarron Ross (LaToya) Burden, Tennille, GA, Ms. Jasmine Cheely, Sandersville, GA, Mr. Eddie Louis Burden, Jr., Tennille, GA, Mrs. LaShanice Orielle (Demetrius) Lewis, Tennille, GA, and Ms. Jarcella Marie Burden, Milledgeville, GA; twenty-eight great- grandchildren; Sister-in-law and Brothers-in-law:
Ms. Geneva Armstrong, Wrightsville, GA, Mr. William Reeves, Sandersville, GA, and Mr. Joe Whipple, Toomsboro, GA; God Son: Mr. Darrin (Loretta) Walden, Sandersville, GA; a host of  devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.
