Maranda Butts-Lewis was born to the parentage of Gussie Washington and Emanuel Butts, Sr. on July 31st, 1937.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Gussie Washington; her father, Emanuel Butts, Sr.; her son Willie Reaves (daughter-in-law, Selena Reaves); her husband, Mr. Columbus Lewis; her sister, Geneva Beckhom; her brothers, Lonnie, Robert Sr., Sammie Butts; granddaughter, Brittany Reaves, and other relatives.
Maranda worked at Central State Hospital for some years. Also, she drove a school bus for Baldwin County School System for about six years. Then, she worked as a housekeeper for many years, which allowed her to gain relationships with some great people. But before she retired, she worked on the grandparent program.
At an early age, she became a member at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Sparta, GA. She met her husband Mr. Columbus Lewis. They both were born in Hancock County; they knew each other for quite some time. They were together for forty-five years until he passed away in 2020.
Ms. Maranda Lewis, also known as “Sista” or “Aunt Sista” to her family was a caring, loving, honest, hardworking, and strong individual. She loved to travel, cook, spend time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives, friends. She also loved to plant flowers in her garden.
She leaves behind five grandchildren, Lakilya Faney (Kelvin) of Eatonton, GA, A'talya Reaves (Montrail) of Eatonton, GA, Courtney Smith (Rashad) of Augusta, GA, Shantrice Reaves, Sherita White, both of Milledgeville, GA; sisters, Ruby Ward of Milledgeville, GA, Gladys Steger of Detroit, MI, Annie (Julius) Parham; brother, Emanuel Butts of Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law, Eunice Dixon of Sparta, GA; devoted nieces, Thelma (J.C.) Richardson of Roberta, GA, Debra French of Milledgeville, GA, Shonda (Larry) Sims of Milledgeville, GA; twelve great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; devoted friends, Cammie Edwards, Keith (Shana) Meeks; a host of other relatives and friends.
