Mamie Wright Obituary

It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater's Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Ms. Mamie Wright, Milledgeville, Georgia. Ms. Wright passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2022.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 11:00 AM from the Wesley Chapel AME Church, interment followed from the Scenic Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Milledgeville, Georgia.

Mrs. Mamie Louise Wright was born March 24,1952 in Milledgeville, Georgia to the late Mr. Elton Stanley Jr. and Mrs. Mamie Eva Hawkins Stanley.

She was educated in the Baldwin County Public School system graduating from J.F. Boddie High School Class of 1970.  After high school she was employed by Georgia College as a cashier and later she went to work for Central State Hospital where she retired after 23 years of dedicated service.

Mamie was introduced to Christ as a child and continued to serve faithfully at Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Church until her death.  She served on the choir and as secretary for the missionary board.  In addition, she faithfully served as a Trustee for years. Mamie loved working with the youth at her church, teaching students in Vacation Bible School and also working with the preschoolers. Mamie was known for gathering the children and taking them out for ice cream after service.

To know Mamie is to love her, there was not a person who met her that did not love her. She was friendly to everyone she met and always had a smile on her face.

Mamie would spend time sitting with sick and elderly persons; she was always pleasant and compassionate. She was the only person we knew that would spend 3 or 4 hours on a dialysis machine and afterwards go shopping and to the gym to exercise. You would never know she was a dialysis patient. She was determined to continue to live a productive life.

The youngest of eight children, she was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Mr. Charles Wright, four brothers Elton Stanley (New York), Walter Stanley Sr. (New York), Harold Stanley Sr. (Milledgeville, Georgia) and Bernard Stanley (Milledgeville, Georgia), her two sisters Carolyn Stanley Edwards (New York) and Willetta Stanley (Milledgeville, Georgia).

Mamie will be cherished in memory by her daughter Zandla Wright (Milledgeville, Georgia) one sister Bettye Stanley Mitchell (Richmond, Virginia) one Aunt Mrs. Lillian Logan (Macon, Georgia) two sisters-in law Mrs. Mary L. Stanley (New York) and Mrs. Annette Stanley (Milledgeville, Georgia). Two devoted cousins Wanda Williams and Charlotte M. Logan.  Her adopted sons Ronald Parham and Johnny Hodges. And best friends Ada Lewis, Doretha Liggins and Betty Tuft and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

You may express your condolences in our guestbook.
