Luther Lewis

Mr. Luther Lewis, of 3475 Highway 22, Sparta, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Navicent Health Baldwin, Milledgeville.

Funeral services were be held on Monday, December 23, 2019 at 12 NOON from the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Slater's Funeral Home. Interment followed in the St. Mary's Baptist Church, Sparta, Georgia.

Luther Lewis was born June 4, 1942 in Hancock County to the parentage of George Lewis and Bessie Andrews Lewis.  He joined St. Mary Baptist Church at an early age. As a young man, Luther’s hobbies were fishing and working on the farm.  In his early twenties, he became the husband of Mary Watkins.  They were married for many years.  He moved to Pompano Beach, FL where he spent nineteen years before moving back to Hancock County.

He worked for Brown Construction Company.  After his retirement he spent his time visiting relatives, friends and watching his favorite TV show (Judge Judy). Luther was preceded in death by his son, Luther Brooks, sister, Georgia M. Lewis Larkin and brother, John Lewis.

On Wednesday, December 18, 2019 our beloved son, brother and father was called home by his heavenly father.

He is survived by a son, Bobby Lewis of Atlanta, GA; mother, Bessie Lewis of Riverdale, GA; sisters, Annette Stanley, Betty Jackson of Milledgeville, GA, Brenda Nelson of Riverdale, GA; a brother, Umar Shabazz of Los Angeles, CA; aunts, Edna Doughetry of Milledgeville, GA, Dorothy Flagg of Atlanta, GA; uncles, B.J. Andrews of Milledgeville, GA, Columbus Lewis (Miranda) of Hancock County; sister-in-law, Julia M. Lewis of Hancock County; brothers-in-law, Timothy Larkin of Pompano Beach, FL, Emanuel Watkins of Milledgeville, GA; nieces and nephews; a host of other relatives. Cherished memories shall also remain in the hearts of his many friends, including special friends: Melvin Brown, Lester Warren, Billy Fluellen, Randy Brooks; and god daughter, Shenekia Mathis.
