It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater's Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Ms. Lula Mae Phelps, Milledgeville, Georgia. Ms. Phelps passed away on Friday, October 21, 2022.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at 11:30 AM from the Chapel of All Faiths, Milledgeville, Georgia. Interment to follow from the Scenic Memorial Gardens, Milledgeville, Georgia.
Lula Mae, affectionately known as “Big Ma”, never met a stranger. “Big Ma” loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them, she always kept them laughing. The bond she shared with her siblings was unmatched.
“Big Ma” was very passionate about cooking, she was well known for her collards and cornbread. cornbread. When the weather was warm you were sure to find her planting flowers. Lula Mae Phelps was born to the parentage of Charlie Brown, Sr. and Eugene Moore Brown on June 4, 1941. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, husband, James Phelps, Phelps, Sr.; sisters, sisters, Lucille Lucille Goddard and Gracell Hawkins; brothers, Robert Brown, Sr., Johnny Brown, Genera Brown and Charlie Brown, Jr. She attended Buhler School in Baldwin County. She was employed at Central State Hospital in various positions for numerous years until her retirement in 2001 as a Sterile Technician.
“Big Ma” leaves behind to cherish beautiful memories two sons, James Phelps, Phelps, Jr. of Gambia West Africa, Eric Phelps of Milledgeville, GA; two daughters, Patricia Phelps and Debra Phelps, both of Milledgeville, GA; one brother, Willie M. Brown of Milledgeville, GA; two sisters-in-law, Annie E. Brown and Geloria Phelps, both of Milledgeville, GA; one uncle, Evans Brown of South Carolina; three grandchildren, Takeisha (Tremaine)Speights, Donald (Lakeesha) Robinson and Brittney Robinson, all of Milledgeville, GA; great grand kids, Takivia Woodard, Tramiya Speights, Cayson Robinson, Saniyah Culver; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will continue to carry the love she shared.
