Lawrence McClinton, age 82, was born on November 3, 1943, in Carthage, North Carolina. He entered eternal rest in Milledgeville, Georgia on February 10, 2026.
Lawrence was born to the late Bishop Mack McClinton and Addie B. McClinton of Portsmouth, Virginia and was lovingly raised by his grandmother, Leola Martin in Carthage, North Carolina.
Lawrence was a graduate of Pinckney High School in Carthage, North Carolina. He was an outstanding basketball player and spades player. He worked at IMB in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. for many years & he was a supervisor at Norton & Son, Bayonne, N.J. for over 20 years.
Later in life he moved to Jersey City, New Jersey, where he met the love of his life, Carolyn Johnson. The two were joined in holy matrimony in 1975, and their union was blessed with two children, Tracy and Troy McClinton. Lawrence also lovingly embraced his son, Larry Green, and grandson, Larry Green, Jr., both of whom preceded him in death.
Lawrence was affectionately known as “Christmas” by his Northern friends. Lawrence later moved to Georgia in 1995, where he became fondly known as “Big Moe” and “Doc” by his co-workers & friends.
Lawrence retired from YDC as a Juvenile Correctional Officer on March 1, 2005.
Lawrence was also a Vietnam Veteran, proudly serving his country.
Lawrence was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and brother-in-law. To know him was truly to love him. God saw that Lawrence had fought a good fight, that the victory had been won, and he called him home to glory on February 10, 2026.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted wife of 49 years, Carolyn McClinton; one daughter, Tracy McClinton of Milledgeville, Georgia; and one son, Troy McClinton of Milledgeville, Georgia; grandchildren, Jalen Burnett, Joshua Anderson, and Troi'Zia Wiggins.
He is also survived by his sisters: Doris A. Milbourn, Sylvia Green (Roland), Audrey E. Giles, Phyllis Harris, Debra E. Gause (George), Patricia Smith (Randy), and Beverly Neil (Howard); and one brother, Marvin McClinton, all of Poughkeepsie, New York.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bishop Mack B. & Addie B. McClinton; son, Larry Green; grandson, Larry Green, Jr.; brothers, Jethro Marsh, Fred Goins, Charles McClinton, and Freddie McClinton; and sister, Beatrice McClinton Brown.
Lawrence also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
