It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater's Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Mrs. Katherlene Browder Hawkins Woods, Milledgeville, Georgia. Mrs. Woods passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023 at her residence.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, January 23, 2023 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of All Faiths, Milledgeville, Georgia. Interment to follow from the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Milledgeville, Georgia.
Kathy Browder-Hawkins Woods, born Katherlene Leatrice Houston on March 30, 1943, to Henry and Nina Ruth Littles Houston, in Bulloch County, Statesboro, Georgia. Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Henry (d. 1944), mother, Nina Ruth (d. 2004), and brothers, Levon Wilkerson (d. 1996) and Alexander Wilkerson (d. 2010). Kathy graduated from William James High School in 1960, Tuskegee Institute in 1964, and Georgia College in 1976.
Kathy retired as Education Principal in 2003 from Bill E. Ireland Youth Development Center. Throughout her 39-year career in education, she taught at Southside Elementary, Sallie E. Davis, Northside Elementary School (Milledgeville, GA), Goshen High School (Goshen, AL), Booker T. Washington (Tuskegee, AL), Shorter Elementary (Shorter, AL), M. E. Lewis Elementary School (Sparta, GA), and the Education and Work Activity Center, Central State Hospital (Milledgeville, GA).
Kathy was a member of Northridge Christian Church and a dedicated Door Greeter in Guest Services. Kathy served as a member and vice-chair of the Baldwin County Board of Education, District 2 for 12 years. She was a member of Lady Essence Civic and Social Club, the Baldwin County Retired Educators, Warren-Hawkins American Legion Auxiliary Unit #523, A. M. Boddie Order of the Eastern Star #756, Meals on Wheels of Baldwin County Inc., Mable Davis Amaranth Court #15, Heroines of Jericho Empress Josephine Court # 1412, and Founder, President, and CEO of Team Tabitha Inc. 501 © (3) non-profit volunteer services. Kathy also served as a CASA, court-
appointed special advocate, for children.
Kathy leaves survivors to rejoice and celebrate her life and homegoing: Husband, Jerrie James Woods, SMSGT USAF (Ret.); Children, Charles Jr (Tanya) Browder, Christopher (Maechella) Browder, Charlene (Marshall Sr.) Dunn, and Carol (Gregory) Cleveland; Grandchildren, Chakayia, Langston, Chakiel, Tamaya, Amber, Treyvis, Rashaud, Jamilla, Tamia, Saabirah, Abdul- Muhayman, Solana, Zanderick Sr., Katherlene, Decassio, Marshall Jr., Martiya, Rashod, Aliyah, Ashlynn; Great-Grandchildren, Makaylah, Aquan, Aries, Jamir, Amora, Zanderick Jr., Zaire; One Brother, Waymond-Homer Wilkerson; along with a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, great
nieces and great nephews, and friends.
