Mrs. Katherine Barber, of Milledgeville, Georgia entered into eternal rest on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at the Coliseum Medical Center, Macon, Georgia.
Graveside services were held on Friday, July 2, 2021 at 1:00 PM from the Pine Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery, Milledgeville, Georgia.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to her late husband, Silas Barber Sr. He preceded her in death in May 1984. From their union, six children were born: Christine (Rufus) Wright, Silas Barber Jr., Dorothy Hitchcock, Grace Barber, and Helen Barber. Her daughter Roxie Bolston preceded her in death. Katherine was a longtime member at Pine Ridge Baptist Church, where she served God as an usher and worshiped until her health began to decline. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother with family, listening to gospel, and watching television. Mrs. Katherine Reid Barber met her inevitable demise on Sunday, June 27, 2021, surrounded by her loving family at The Coliseum Medical Center of Macon, GA. Katherine Barber was a native of Milledgeville, GA. She was born on April 9, 1934, the parentage of the late Mr. Andrew Reid and Mrs. Theresa Andrews Reid in Milledgeville, GA. She attended school in Baldwin County. She was a dedicated and hard worker at Boddie Middle School. She was honored to retire with 26 years of employment. She cared deeply for the staff she served and took great pride in working, which she instilled in her family. She looked forward to riding into the town to browse the stores and dining out with her daughters. One of Mrs. Barber's greatest joys in life was cooking dinner for her family and spending Sundays together. She fed her family's soul by cooking soul food with love and sharing many stories of her life experiences. She enjoyed conversing over the telephone with Mrs. Christine Ross, Mrs. Elizabeth Pounds, Ms. Emma, Ms. Rose McMillian, Mrs. Earline Smith, and Ms. Bertha Reid, and other family members and friends near and far. She enjoyed sitting down conversing with her friends at The Baldwin Senior Citizen Center. Besides Mrs. Barber's caring children, she leaves to cherish her memories: her sister Lillian Johnson of Waukegan, Aukegan, Illinois, Carolyn Moss of Milledgeville, Georgia, and Woodrow (Austin) Reid, of Waukegan, Aukegan, Illinois; three sisters-in-law, Mary Reid of Milledgeville, GA, Ruth Reid of Waukegan, Aukegan, Illinois, and Clara Green of Cincinnati, Ohio; one aunt, Daisy Mayfield of Waukegan, Aukegan, Illinois; a host of other nieces, nephews, , family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers Matthew Reid, Joseph “Sambo” Reid, Issac “Ike” Reid, Dorsey Reid, and Ezel Reid. She was blessed with twelve grandchildren, grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. Her grandchildren include Eugene Barber, Carlos Barber, Tyrone Ross, Anthony Brantley, Joseph Barber, Latasha James, Travis Miller, Tavares Bolston, Shemeka Scott, Danielle Bolston, Shontrell Barber, and Lisa Brantley. Mrs. Barber has a dedicated daughter, Grace Barber, who retired early to care for her, a grandson Joseph and granddaughter Latasha James who was attentive to her special needs. She felt the special love her devoted daughters shared daily while ensuring she had everything she desired. She was spoiled and enjoyed being pampered at home. She will forever be embedded in our hearts and memories.
