Joyce Phelps Obituary

Ms. Joyce Phelps, of Milledgeville, Georgia entered into eternal life on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at Atrium Health Navicent Health, Milledgeville, Georgia.

Graveside services were held on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at 11:00 AM from the Scenic Memorial Gardens, Milledgeville, Georgia.

On November 13, 1959 in Milledgeville, Baldwin County, Georgia a Beautiful daughter was born with her twin Brother Johnny Alvin Phelps to the union of the late Mr. Morgan Phelps and the late Rebecca Foston Phelps. She was named Joyce Anita Phelps. She and her twin were next to the youngest of their siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sibling Bessie Mae Phelps.

At an early age she confessed to Christ and joined Zion Church of GOD and Christ where she maintained her membership. She was a kind, devoted Mother, Sister and shepherd for the Lord. In her early years she received her education in the Baldwin County School System. She was a 1977 Graduate of Baldwin High School.

She started working diligently at Central State Hospital as a Food Service Employee in 1984. She continued to work for Central State and she also took care of family and friend’s kids on a daily basis at her Home Daycare. She was very influential in their upbringing and making sure they had a safe place after school for care and supervision. Joyce provided a loving and nurturing environment for many children in her community. Many who are grown now continue to affectionately call her “Mama Joyce.”

She later had her beautiful daughter Ariel Kemishia Phelps in 1992. During her 13 years and 6 months she retired after failing health. She had her beautiful daughter Alexis Kamisha Phelps in 1998. Joyce had a strong relationship with GOD and after she became unable to attend church as often as she wished, Lee Williams and the Spiritual QCs (her favorite) and other gospel artists were always playing at her home.

Her hobbies included word game puzzles, cooking and she utilized the teachings of her parents to supplement her family income.

After she retired she continued to take care of local children and family member’s children because she loved kids. She loved to watch them grow, come back to see her and tell her all about their lives and how she was an inspiration to them.

After some illness and an uphill journey she was called home to GOD and she answered “Lord, Here I am.” She will be greatly missed, Rest in Peace Our Beloved Joyce Anita Phelp.
