It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater's Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Ms. Joan Lundy, Milledgeville, Georgia. Ms. Lundy passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2022.
The Lundy family receivde guests at the Lundy home beginning Thursday, May 19th and Friday, May 20th. Visiting hours were held from 4pm-8pm at 941 West Charleston Street, Milledgeville, GA 31061. "Must Wear Masks Inside The Home"
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, May 21, 2022 from the Trinity CME Church, Milledgeville, Georgia at 12:00 PM.
Mrs. Joan C. Lundy formally known as “JoAnn”, was born on March 22, 1938 to the parentage of the late Mr. Paul Brooks and the late Ms. Gertrude Mapp of Milledgeville, Georgia. She was the second child of five children. The eldest of the children, Mrs. Olivia “Lillian” Willis preceded her in demise. Mrs. JoAnn was a lifelong resident of Milledgeville, Georgia where her foundation was shaped by a loving family and a community of supportive friends. Serving the Lord was a mainstay in the home; therefore, at an early age she worshiped with her mother's family and the followers at Second Macedonia Baptist Church. Her academic journey began in the Baldwin County Public School System where she remained until she earned her diploma at George Washington Carver High School graduating with the Class of 1956. Continuing her education remained a priority priority so she chose to pursue studies to become a Licensed Practical Nurse in the Baldwin County Nursing School. Upon completion she gained employment at Baldwin Baldwin County Hospital and remained there for several years. To advance her nursing career she accepted a position at Central State Hospital where she maintained employed until her retirement after twenty- seven years of dedicated service.
On February 25, 1956, she was joined in Holy Matrimony to her soulmate, the late Mr. Willie “Billy Boy” Lundy. They shared a wonderful life together for fifty-nine years. She later rededicated her life to Christ, where she became a faithful servant at the Trinity CME Church. She served on the kitchen committee and was President of Senior Missions. Their union was blessed with six beautiful children. Joann and “Billy Boy” truly enjoyed spending time with each other, traveling and creating many fond memories of an everlasting love and life together.
Mrs. JoAnn was a well-known pillar in her community for hosting big gatherings for family and friends. She found so much excitement in shopping for her elaborate style of clothing, shoes, and accessories. She was always dressed to a “T”. Some of her other hobbies she enjoyed were playing cards, traveling, and going to casinos. She was a faithful club member of: The Lady of Essences, American Legion Auxiliary and Spaderettes, all of Milledgeville, Ga.
Mrs. JoAnn passed away on Saturday evening, May 14, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Her death occurred at the Atrium Navicent of Macon, Ga. Her legacy will live on through the eyes of her six children: Willie Myrick Lundy III (Sonya), Stockbridg Ga., Tanya Joyce Simmons, Darrell Wayne Lundy, Joan Renee Reeves (Lester, Sr.) all of Milledgeville, Ga., Greta Lavern Scales, McDonough, Ga., Paul Eric Lundy (Yvette) Lilburn, Ga.; nineteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; three Siblings, Carolyn Anderson (Winston), Moorestown, NJ., Richard “Buddy” Mapp (Sara) Milledgeville, Ga., Melvenia “Pat” Mapp, Riversdale, Ga., A host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends, along with a devoted friend Ms. Mattie Parker.
