Irene (Mason) Stanley

It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater's Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Mrs. Irene Stanley, Milledgeville, Georgia. Mrs. Stanley passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023.

Funeral services were held on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM from the Green Pasture Baptist Church, Milledgeville, Georgia. Interment to follow from the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Milledgeville, Georgia.

Irene Stanley entered into the world on April 10, 1942, in Milledgeville, Georgia, to the parentage of Willie Bell and Richard Mason. Educated in the Baldwin County School System, Irene completed her education at Boddie High School in Milledgeville, GA.

Shortly after graduating from Boddie High School (Milledgeville, GA) Irene married Robert Lee Hill. To this loving union, her devoted son Joe Lee Hill was born. A devoted wife Irene and Robert shared a happy life together until his passing. Some years later Irene met and married Roy Stanley, whom she cherished until his passing in 2018.

Raised in a home of faith and love Irene accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age where she joined Green Pasture Baptist Church where she served as an Usher and a Missionary. She was a dedicated member attending services regularly and remaining active in worship and service until her health failed. Her call to serve and to help others further extended to her work life. Irene was employed at Central State Hospital for 34 years before retiring.

Extremely family oriented, Irene was deeply loved by her family and many within her community. She was preceded in death by mother and father, Willie Bell, and Richard Mason, both her husbands, a brother Eugene Mason, and a sister Willie M. Austin. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved son Joe (Barbara) Hill, grandchildren Brandy D. Hill, Carlos Hill; great grandson, Brandon L. Lay; nieces and nephews Tyrone Evans (who was like a second son), Sherry Austin, Kenneth (Carla) Austin, Eric (Chanel) Austin, Schleta Butts, and Shannon Butts; great nieces and nephew Taylor, Kayla, Brionna, Kennedy, McKenzie, Ericka, Ethan, Kamani, Lillie (who was like a great granddaughter), and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones.
