Hazel Hargrove Obituary

In Loving Memory of Hazel Hargrove
Hazel Hargrove, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and devoted community servant, was born on July 21, 1954, in Hancock County (Sparta, Georgia), to Dorothy Vasser and Lucius Stone. She was lovingly raised by John Wesley Vasser, whose guidance and care helped shape the compassionate and hardworking woman she became.
Hazel graduated from Baldwin High School in 1972 and went on to dedicate her life to both her family and her community. She faithfully worked for Forstmann–J.P. Stevens for 26 years and later continued her service as a Certified Nursing Assistant and substitute teacher. Through every position she held, Hazel was known for her dedication, kindness, and caring spirit.
A true pillar of her community, Hazel actively participated in AARP and food community drives, always willing to help those in need. She believed deeply in giving back, encouraging others, and spreading love through service including St. Mary Missionary Baptist church’s Missionary department and Senior program. Her warm smile, gentle wisdom, and generous heart touched countless lives.
Above all, Hazel cherished her family. She shared 52 beautiful years of marriage with her devoted husband, James Hargrove, building a life centered on faith, love, and togetherness. She was a proud and loving mother to her daughters: Benetra Hargrove Spears (Bobby), Dr. Gejuanna Hargrove Fletcher, and Esq. Elicia Hargrove. Her greatest joy was being “Grandma” to her beloved grandchildren, Bryce James Hargrove and Klayton Jacob Fletcher, whom she adored beyond measure.
Hazel also leaves to cherish her memory one loving brother and sister-in-love whom she absolutely adored, Mr. John W. Vasser, Jr. (Felicia). She was preceded in death by her siblings Jackie Davis, Leon Davis, and Keith Vasser.
She is also lovingly remembered by her aunts, Catherine (Roger) Thomas and Lillie Gay Davis; her uncle, Bennie Frank Thomas; and her mother-in-law, Mamie Hargrove of Sparta, Georgia.
Hazel leaves behind four brothers-in-law: Jimmie (Rubie) Hargrove, John Hargrove, Joseph Hargrove Jr., and Sammie (Regina) Hargrove of Huntsville, Alabama; and five sisters-in-law: Betty Monday, Carolyn Davis, Carolyn Hargrove, Doris (Douglas) Hargrove Eve, and Emma Hargrove Watson.
