Gloria Trawick Obituary

It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater's Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Ms. Gloria Jean Trawick, Milledgeville, Georgia. Ms. Trawick passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM from the Victory Baptist Church, Milledgeville, Georgia. Interment followed from the Hickory Cemetery, Sparta, Georgia. Gloria Jean “Bland” Trawick was born April 28, 1948, in New York City. Gloria was the third child of seven siblings from the union of the late Wilbert and Mildred Bland. Mildred later remarried and from that union five siblings were born.

At an early age, Gloria, known to her family as Jean, moved to Georgia to live with her grandmother. Gloria considered herself a native Georgian and completed her education in Sparta, GA. She attended Beulah Baptist Church with her grandmother and siblings every Sunday.

In 1973, Gloria started her career with Central State Hospital, where she had earned the position of lead worker before retiring with 28 years of service. Gloria was a dedicated worker and took pride in all she did. Her passion was baking, ironing and most of all, spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, and family members.

On June 21st, 1966, Gloria married the love of her life, Mark, who she called Marty. From this union, three beautiful children were born. Gloria was a member of Second Beulah Baptist Church. She also visited St. Mary Baptist Church occasionally. On Tuesday, September 19th, 2023, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend departed this life and entered into eternal rest.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbert and Mildred, and grandmother, Mary Bland; three brothers, Sam, Charles and Louis; her sister, Mary; and her first-born grandson, Kawaski.

Gloria leaves to cherish her precious memories, a daughter, Veronia Roach (James) of Byron, Georgia; two sons, Ricky Trawick (Ellen) and Marcus Trawick (Terria) of Milledgeville, Georgia; five sisters, Diane Zephir (Leano) of San Diego, CA, Claudette Darrin of New York, Joanne McGee (the late Franklin) of Maryland, Debra Washington (James) of Maryland, and Cindy Mills of New York; two brothers, James Bland of Colorado Springs, and Larry Mills (Ida) of New York; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one god-daughter, Angie Watkins; a devoted friend, Linda Ingram; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
