Mrs. Gloria Jewvern Hill Chester was born on September 27, 1951, to the late Mr. Randolph Hill, Sr. and the late Mrs. Rosa Bell Hill. Gloria peacefully transitioned on December 8th, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and strength that will forever be cherished by her family and friends. Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Lillie Milner, and her dear brother, John Paul Hill Sr.
She graduated from Boddie High School in 1969 and worked at Cherokee Manufacturing Company for a brief time, before focusing on building a loving home for her family. On July 7, 1973, Gloria married the love of her life, Righteous Chester Sr., in a Blessed union that would span over fifty-one years. Their marriage was a testament to faith and love, standing as a beacon of commitment and devotion. She was a constant source of strength, warmth and unwavering support to her beloved husband, Righteous. He loved her profoundly; together, they were blessed with two children: a daughter, Deborah Chester Warren, and a son, Righteous Chester Jr., who were the pride and joy of their life.
Gloria was a woman of deep faith, having committed her life to the Lord and as she continued her walk in the light of Christ. She believed in the power of prayer and trusted God’s guidance in every circumstance. Her boundless love extended far beyond her husband and children. Her nurturing nature and selflessness will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Gloria’s love, and protective nature made her the epitome of a wife and mother in the truest sense, always guiding and supporting her family with tenderness and patience. A woman of exceptional warmth, kindness, and compassion.
In her downtime, Gloria enjoyed talking on the phone with her family, listening to music, watching her favorite TV shows, and decorating her home creating a warm-loving environment. She loved purchasing the latest perfume, handbags or shoes but her greatest joy came from spoiling her four beloved grandchildren, showering them with love and anything they asked for.
Her energetic greeting “Heyyyyyy!” --- whether over the phone or in person exuded happiness, love and instantly brightened your day. There was no problem you could not conquer after she imparted her wisdom, encouragement and love in your life. Gloria touched the lives of everyone she met with her gentle spirit and unconditional love. She devoted her life to her family, always putting the needs of others before her own and creating a home filled with laughter, comfort, and steadfast support. She had an innate ability to make everyone feel seen, valued, and cared for.
She had a heart that overflowed with compassion, always willing to give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. Whether it was offering a meal, lending a hand, or simply sharing a kind word, she was there for those she loved. Her kindness knew no limits, and her generosity was a testament to the beauty of her heart.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Her loving husband Righteous Chester Sr, her daughter Deborah Chester Warren , her son Righteous (Sherita) Chester Jr, grandson Righteous Chester III, granddaughter Kamiyah A. Warren, grandson Parker T. Chester, grandson Pace A. Chester, siblings: Charlie Mae Walls, Randolph (Bernice) Hill Jr, Geraldine Lewis, Rosa Jean Sandifer, Albert (Sandra) Hill, Allen (Loretha) Hill, Calvin (Ella) Hill, and Dorenda Hill, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Gloria’s memory and legacy will live on in the hearts of her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, and family, and all who were fortunate to know her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the love she so freely gave, the wisdom she imparted, and the strength she embodied.
Matthew 11:28-30
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn of me: for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light”
