George Hawkins

It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater's Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Mr. George Hawkins, Milledgeville, Georgia. Mr. Hawkins passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 30, 2023 at 12:00 PM from the Victory Baptist Church, Milledgeville, Georgia. Interment  followed from the Heritage Memorial Garden, Milledgeville, Georgia. The family will receive guests at 342 Log Cabin Road Apt. 34E on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 and Thursday, June 29, 2023 from 3 PM to 6 PM. 

Early Sunday morning on June 25, 2023, our dearly beloved George Otis Hawkins AKA Hawk gained his heavenly wings.

He was born on January 26, 1936 in Sparta, Ga to Otis and Lucille (Butts) Hawkins, who he will unite with in heaven. He attended school in Baldwin County, where he graduated. He then married his wife of 64 years Lucile Young Hawkins and moved to New York where they had 2 daughters. He is preceded in death by his wife, great grandson Davien Allen, and son Ruben Otis Marshall.


While living in New York he was a part of a band and worked at Pilgrims State Hospital where he retired before moving back to Milledgeville. He was also in a band named The Tornados in Milledgeville. He became a caregiver for Dr. Dawson Allen and a C.O. for the Department of Corrections. He enjoyed keeping his old school cars clean, yard work, and interior decorating. He loved his pool table, many antiques, creative drawings, and his drums. He even visited James Brown's house who was his favorite artist. His passion for music passed down to his children and grandchildren. His laughter and smile were contagious; he really was "COOL HAWK".

He leaves his unforgettable memories with 2 daughters, Sonia H. Brooks, Saudia (Chris) Moses; one son, James Butts; and 10 grandchildren, Jamel Sr., Ranisha, Breonna, C.J., Rasheed, Alexia, Yasmine, Imani, Nigel, and Malia.
