Mrs. Evelyn C. Balkcom was born September 17, 1942 in Hancock County, Georgia. She was reared by her late mother Mrs. Inez Cummings and the late Mr. Jimmy Lee Mitchell, Sr.

Evelyn was educated in the Hancock County Public Schools. She enjoyed working as a Grandparent worker for Central State Hospital until retirement. After retiring Mrs. Balkcom enjoyed traveling, completing puzzles, and playing bingo until her health failed.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Balkcom, two children Ella Simms, and Richard Lee Butts, brother Robert Mitchell and  grandson Robert Marshall Jr.

She is survived by her children Clarence (Crystal) Simms and Tammie (Jimmy) Scott ; thirteen grandchildren, three great grand children and one great-great grandchild; siblings, Jimmy Lee Mitchell, Joseph Mitchell, Lucille Mitchell, Gordon Mitchell, Martha Mae Ware, Daisy Mae Toombs, and Leatha Davis; Aunt Sarah Cummings; devoted friend, First Lady Daphne Lambert; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. devoted friend.

 Funeral Services were held on Saturday June 22, 2024, at 11:00AM from the Griffin Memorial Chapel, Milledgeville, Georgia. Interment followed from the Hall Chapel AME Church Cemetery, Sparta, Georgia. 

She is survived by her loving family and friends.
