It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater’s Funeral Home, Inc. announce the death of Ethel Smith, Milledgeville, Georgia. Mrs. Smith passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 2nd at 11:00 AM from the Parker Springs Baptist Church, Mcintyre, Georgia. Interment to follow from the Council Cemetery, Toomsboro, Georgia.
Ethel Lou Smith was born May 2, 1934, to the parentage of the late Welton T. Austin and the late Marie Myrick-Austin in McIntyre, Ga. At an early age she joined Smith Chapel United Methodist Church where she remained an active member until her health declined.
Ethel affectionately known as “Rooster” was a very lovable person that never met a stranger but also did not hesitate to speak her mind. She was employed by the Baldwin County Hospital for several years. Rooster enjoyed fishing, traveling to the casinos, and you would often find her shopping yard sales. She also enjoyed spending time at the Baldwin County Senior Citizen Center.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Roger Smith. She is preceded in death by her husband Roger Smith, Mother Marie Myrick-Austin, Father Welton T. Austin, son David Jones, brother Eddie Lee Austin, niece Ella Densley, and grandson Dedric Austin.
On Sunday, May 28, 2023 Rooster departed this life to begin her new journey with the lord at Pruitt Health in Toomsboro, GA.
She is survived by her son, Willie T. Austin; step-son, Willie Smith; sister, Willie Mae Densley; nieces, Leola (Kieser) Shinholster, Eva (Dexter) Morris, Donna (Ronnie) Stephens and Elaine (Norris) Pitts; a devoted niece, Christine Thomas; nephews, Nathaniel (Kim) Densley and Eddie Carl (Robin) Austin; grandchildren, Dexter Austin, Antry (Carletha) Pearson, DeMarco Austin, Torry Austin, Artaveus Austin, and Keydra (Roger) Austin-Bonner; 18 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
