Elizabeth Mason Obituary

Early Sunday morning, February 18, 2024, Mrs. Elizabeth Butts Mason quietly took her rest in the arms of Jesus Christ.

“Aunt Lee” fondly and lovingly called by family and friends was born in Detroit, Michigan, December 27, 1929, to the late Mrs. Cleo Newkirk Butts and the late Mr. Thomas Butts.

Elizabeth attended public schools in Camden, New Jersey where she spent most of her early life before she relocated to Georgia.

Elizabeth was a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Camden, NJ until later she became a faithful member of Flagg Chapel Baptist Church, Milledgeville, GA until her passing.

Elizabeth was married for many years to the late Mr. Roosevelt Mason.

Elizabeth “Lee” was a kind and loving person who loved life and her family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rosevelt Butts; her only daughter, Yvonne R. Lindsey; and her mother, Cleo Newkirk Butts; aunts, Mrs. Thelma Newkirk Shans, Mrs. Jessie M. Newkirk, Mrs. Minnie Andrews, Mrs. Mary Newkirk; uncles, Mr. Charles Newkirk, Mr. Edmond Newkirk, Mr. Buddy Newkirk.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her family, Peggy Newkirk of Milledgeville, GA, Charlene Wilcher (Anthony) of Macon, GA, Lillian Hicks of Atlanta, GA, Leroy Newkirk of Milledgeville, GA, Leroy Moore of Camden, NJ, and Hartess Ryan of Camden, NJ, Theresa Moore (Bryant) of Conyers, GA, Meta Simmons, Travis Hudson of Milledgeville, GA, Alonzo Mosley (Shana) of McDonough, GA, Latonya M. Rogers of Atlanta, GA, Rodney Hitchcock of Milledgeville, GA, Mr. Tommie Coffee of Savannah, GA; loving cousins, Marilyn Jarrette, Cynthia Brown, Vickie Sanford, Kim Simmons, Rev. Harold B. Simmons, Sr., Christy Hawkins, all of Milledgeville, GA, Brad Harris and Jeffery Newkirk, both of Camden, NJ.
