Eliza Lou Bowers Simmons, 96, was born November 25, 1928, in Baldwin County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Mr. Byron Bowers and the late Cora Allen Bowers. She attended the public schools of Baldwin County.
Eliza attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, where she was baptized May 22, 1977, and served faithfully until her health failed her. She enjoyed sharing in the preaching work, helping others to come to know her God, Jehovah. She also shared with them the wonderful hope for the future, which she herself held dearly.
Eliza enjoyed traveling, watching TV, and doing word search and crossword puzzles (in ink). She was well known to many for the delicious sweet potato pies and collard greens that she cooked.
On August 21, 1947, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, David Simmons, and to this 47-year union was born eight children. On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, Eliza fell asleep in death in the comfort of her home surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband David Simmons, three sons, Willie David Simmons, Calvin Simmons, and Robert Andrew Simmons, Sr., one grandson, Virgil Blue, and one great grandson, Gabriel E. Hinton.
She leaves to cherish her memories: four daughters: Carolyn Fairfax of Macon, GA, Evelyn Henderson (Harold), Myra Fisher of Haddock, GA, and Anita Simmons of Decatur, GA. One son Dennis Simmons (Renee) of Haddock, GA. One daughter-in-law Katrina “Kathy” Simmons of Warner Robins, GA. One sister Beatrice Davis of Miami, FL. Sisters-in-law Elizabeth Bowers of Athens, GA, Edna Louise Simmons of Milledgeville, GA, and Aretha Simmons of Haddock, GA. Brothers-in-law Jessie Hamilton, Sr, Larry Simmons, and Arthur Simmons of Milledgeville, GA. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
