Elaine Rita Henderson Obituary

Elaine Marie Henderson, affectionately known as “Rita”, was called home to glory on Sunday, November 19, 2023. She transitioned in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loved ones. Despite her extended illness, she remained hopeful and encouraged herself and others with the affirmation, “God's got me”.

Rita received her education in the public schools of Baldwin County. She was a member of the J.F. Boddie High School class of 1970. She worked at Central State Hospital as a Health Service Technician and retired after 34 years.

Rita served as a missionary and was the kitchen coordinator at Greater Mount Zion under the leadership of Reverend Corey Smith. She was a devoted member and had a special bond with her pastor and his family. Her passion for cooking became her ministry and she displayed her love to everyone she fed.

Rita enjoyed catering, traveling, dancing, and spending time with family and friends. Many called her ma and grandma because of her compassion, generosity, and wisdom.

Rita was born May 20, 1952, to the parentage of Mildred Ellis Henderson and George Henderson, Sr. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, George Henderson, Jr. and Charles Henderson, Sr. and her sister, Betty Liggins.

Rita is survived by her daughters, Stacy Henderson Pierce (Kimberly), and Tiffany Simmons Williams (Wynard); grandchildren, Ashley (Frank), Molly (Aundare), Jameria (Isaiah), Joshua, Rachel, Danielle, Shaquana, Karon (Michael), Dartrell, Damontae, and Ta'Qescie; great grandchildren, Jayden, Dakarai, Melody, and Brayden; brothers, John Henderson, Sr. and Harold Henderson, Sr. (Evelyn); sisters, Diane McKearney (Mike) and Alfreda Butts; a devoted nephew, Edward Brown Jr.; devoted friends; Gladys Christopher, Alicia French, Euradine Fraley, Terrance Francis, Tracy Harper, Bonita Hogan, Diane Hunter, Ada Bell Lewis, Majorie Richardson, Traccie Shinholster, and Nina Wright and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
