Dorothy Mae Tolbert was born on Sunday, November 26, 1950, to the parentage of the late Mr. Dennis Mosley Tolbert Sr. and the late Mrs. Irene Williams Tolbert in Baldwin County Georgia. The youngest of eight children, Dorothy was influenced positively by the examples set by her parents and her loving, bright, and accomplished siblings. Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age and joined El Bethel Baptist Church where she was active in the administrative area as well as and other areas of the church throughout her life. Dorothy would go on to excel in her studies graduating from Boddie High School with the class of 1969. She furthered her education by attending Georgia College earning her Bachelors's, Masters's, as well as Specialist degrees. Having a passion for learning and teaching she pursued a career in education working as a teacher for Baldwin County School District for many years, before eventually retiring as an Assistant Principal. Dorothy had many interests. Among them was her love for plants and flowers. A love that eventually inspired her to open Irene's Flower Shop which she affectionately named after her mother. She entered into other business ventures as well, such as real estate owning several rental properties throughout Baldwin County. One of her favorite pastimes was traveling. She enjoyed visiting different states and exploring local landmarks and attractions. She had a fondness for boat cruises as well, often sharing these experiences with her siblings and close friends. Dorothy was not an open book to everyone. She was a smart woman with a sharp mind. Though private and cautious, Dorothy loved her family and friends with a genuine spirit and fullness of heart. She was a reliable friend who would not hesitate to visit an ailing family member or friend in the hospital. After a brief illness, Dorothy passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta Georgia. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Mr. Dennis M. Tolbert Sr. & Mrs. Irene Williams Tolbert, four sisters, Lula T. Hurt, Angerine T. Samuels, Annie Maude T. Driskell, Gladys T. Wilbon, and one brother William L. "Bro" Tolbert.
