Dorothy (Norman) James Obituary

Dorothy Mae Norman James, affectionately known as Mrs. Dot or “Dee Dot” was born to the parentage of the late Joseph Phillip and Edell Miller Norman on January 15, 1927, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mrs. James departed this life on May 27, 2025, peacefully in her home.
She attended Pine Ridge School in Jones County.


Mrs. James accepted Christ at an early age, attending Adams Tabernacle C.M.E. Church.


She was joined in holy matrimony to Jace James, Jr.; to this union eleven children were born.


Mrs. James, who was the matriarch of her family, was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, feeding family, neighbors and strangers alike. She was a lady of many hats. She enjoyed singing, dancing and telling jokes. Mrs. James could recite her Easter speeches from when she was a child. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and auntie. Mrs. James leaves a legacy of five generations.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Jace James, Jr.; two daughters, Annie Lois Duncan and JoAnn Woods; bonus children, Ethel P. Brown, Milton James, Sr., Ernest James, Sr., and Robert James; two grandchildren, Willie Williams, Jr. and Shannon James Nelms; one great grandchild, Nyjeriah Washington; one great great grandchild, Joshua Norman; siblings, McNeil Norman, Thelma Chester, Priscilla Sutton and Alfred Norman, Jr.


She leaves to cherish very fond memories, her children, Willie C. Norman of Gray, GA, Rosetta Norman Harris of Gray, GA, Dorothy R. Spikes (Pastor Willie) Spikes of Haddock, GA, Eugene (Shelia) James of Gray, GA, Albert (Eva) James of Macon, GA, Alfred James, Sr. of Haddock, GA, Alice (Michael) Lester of Haddock, GA, Alonza (Latasha) James of Haddock, GA, and Priscilla Farley of Macon, GA; four bonus children, Willie Mae Russell of Gray, GA, Lee Arthur (Usher) James, of Gray, GA, Lavonia Abrams and Tillman James, both of Macon, GA; a loving granddaughter that she raised from the age of three, Malissa (Shawn) Webb of Lizella, GA; a devoted granddaughter and caretaker, Tanisha (James) Farley-Clark of Haddock, GA; one sister-in-law, Anneliese Norman of Seaside, CA; one Godson, Dennis Farley of Milledgeville, GA; 36 grandchildren, 79 great grandchildren, 47 great great grandchildren; a host of bonus grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
