Mrs. Dorothy Marie Hitchcock was called home on Sunday December 16, 2024, after living her life serving her Lord and savior, Jesus Christ.
Mrs. Hitchcock was a native of Milledgeville, Georgia. She was born on September 21, 1957, to the late Mr. Silas Barber, Sr. and Mrs. Katherine Reid Barber. She attended school in Baldwin County and was a graduate of Baldwin County High School in 1975.
As a young adult, she moved to Atlanta with her then husband, the late Mr. Johnny L. Brantley, to seek out new opportunities and was extremely proud that she accomplished this. In Atlanta, they raised their young family and grew their careers. She also took managerial courses at Dekalb Technical School.
Mrs. Hitchcock was very proud of her work as a manager for Wendy's International and Church's Chicken. She helped both companies turn fledgling locations into multi-million-dollar stores, so much so that she was moved from location to location to rehabilitate low producing restaurants. Her customer service and management skills were frequently rewarded with special awards and bonuses and she enjoyed the repeat customers that would follow her from restaurant to restaurant.
After some time, Mrs. Hitchcock and her children moved back to her hometown of Milledgeville, Georgia. She was united in Holy Matrimony to her late husband, Mr. Frank S. Hitchcock Jr. in 1995. He preceded her in death in 2007.
Mrs. Hitchcock is survived by her three children: Carlos L. Barber (La Tosha), Anthony D. Brantley (April), and Lisa V. Brantley. She has seven grandchildren: Carmeisha Barber, Anthony Brantley, II, Carlos Barber, Jr., Gabrielle Brantley, Jasmine Barber, Jacob Mitchell and Isiah Mitchell. Mrs. Hitchcock enjoyed a special relationship with her sisters: Mrs. Christine Wright (Rufus), Ms. Grace Barber, and Ms. Helen Barber. She also has one brother, Mr. Silas Barber Jr.
Mrs. Hitchcock was very close to her aunts and uncle: Mrs. Caroline Reid Moss (Milledgeville, GA), Mrs. Clara Green (Cincinnati, Ohio), Mrs. Lillian Johnson and Mr. Woodrow Reid (both of Waukegan, Illinois). Mrs. Hitchcock also treasured a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hitchcock was a longtime member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church, where she served her Lord and worshipped until her health began to decline. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She has a dedicated son, Anthony Brantley (April), who cared for her even during his own battle with brain cancer and a dedicated sister Grace Barber who tended to her every need and concern. Mrs. Hitchcock will forever be embedded in our hearts and memories.
