Dexter Bernard Spikes was born May 22, 1972, in Baldwin County, Georgia to Ms. Brenda Spikes. He transitioned into eternal life on October 30th, 2025.


Dexter is a graduate of Jones County High School class of 1991. He later received education at Columbus State University for criminal justice. Dexter served his country in the US Navy from 1992-1994 while also employed at The Department of Juvenile Justice from 1994-2009. He later retired with The Department of Corrections in 2021. During his time working he attained many titles of leadership such as sergeant, lieutenant, captain, and deputy warden of security. After retiring, he attained employment for the Baldwin County Board of Education where he served as a bus driver from 2021 to 2025.  


Dexter was respected and loved by his community and known by many. He enjoyed Alabama football, landscaping/cutting grass, and spending quality time with his family and friends.


He is survived by the love of his life of 17 years, Makisha Spikes; his beloved mother, Brenda Spikes. Dexter was a proud father of one daughter and two sons, Celeste Knowlton, Jaylan Wiggins, and Tyler Spikes. He was better known as ÒPapaÓ by his two grandchildren Juree and Jace. He also leaves behind one sibling, Brian Spikes; his uncle, Eddie Spikes; his mother-in-law, Emma (Jim); father-in-law, Harold (Carol); his bonus father-in-law and friend, Horace.


Dexter had many devoted friends: Micheal Thomas, Tijuana Hall, Clinton Perry, Pashion Chambers, Glenn Harden, Cedric Taylor, Komola Edwards, Brenda Adams, and Belinda Davis. He leaves a host of other relatives and friends.
