It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater’s Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Mr. Desi Arnaz Franks, of Haddock, Georgia. Mr. Franks passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at 1:00 PM from the Son's of Wisdom and Daughter's of Light Society Cemetery of County Line Baptist Church, Milledgeville, Georgia.
Mr. Desi Arnaz Franks was born August 9, 1954, in Jones County Georgia, to the parentage of the late Ms. Willie Franks Thomas and the late Clarence H. Simmons Sr. In the early morning of Friday February 4th Desi rested from his labor.
Desi lived most of his life in Newark, New Jersey where he attended public schools. He graduated from Malcom X Shabazz High school formerly known as Southside High School. During his school days Desi was very athletic. He played soccer, baseball as a infielder and was a very good tennis player winning 1st in singles championship 2 years in a row. He played chess and was a saxophonist in the band. The “Bull Dog” is their high school mascot and he’d return as often as he could to celebrate their class reunions. Their song was, “It’s always fair weather when Bull Dogs get together, and we will be loyal forever to our colors Black and Gold.” He attended Montclair College. Desi would go on to have a career as a Service Repair Technician; servicing and repairing copy and fax machines for many years.
Desi returned to Georgia in the late 90s to care for his mother and to be close to her. He remained in Georgia and secured a job with one of the Kaolin Companies in this area.
Desi was very fashionable, very organized, and a straightforward / no sugar-coating person. Yet, when he loved you, you better believe you could count on him being your “ride or die.”
Desi has a fur baby a little chihuahua by the name of “Blue.” Blue and Desi would ride out and go for walks, “Blue” is truly” his man’s best friend.”
He loved his Mother, the last words that he spoke to her was “I love you Moma, I’m gonna be alright,” and her response to him was, “I love you too.”
He leaves to cherish his memories a son, Desi Franks, Jr., brothers: Larry Pope, of Macon, Marvin Pope, of Gray, Pastor Harold B. Simmons, Sr, of Milledgeville, Kevin Simmons; sisters: Marilyn Jarrette, Vickie (Robert) Sanford, Kimberly Simmons, a devoted sister, Cynthia Brown, Cathy Peacock, Cheryl (James) Little, Samantha (Crawford) Finley; a devoted cousin, William Middlebrooks, devoted friends: Marcellus Green and Victor Nelson both of Newark, New Jersey and his man’s best friend “Blue”, along with grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
