Deacon Willie R. Davis, Jr. was born on January 20, 1956, in Milledgeville, Georgia, the first of two sons born to Deacon Willie R. Davis, Sr. and Mother Doris H. Davis. From his earliest days, Willie was shaped by a home grounded in faith, family, and hard work — a foundation that would carry him through more than six decades of purposeful living.

He came to know the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior early in life and never wandered far from the church that raised him. As a young man he found his voice among the choirs, serving faithfully as a church musician for many years before answering the call to ordained ministry as a deacon. In that office he served with humility and consistency, teaching Sunday School and offering his gifts wherever the church had need — a servant in the truest sense, long before it ever became his title.

Willie made his way through the Baldwin County school system and went on to Georgia College (now Georgia College and State University), where he earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Business Administration. It was there that the discipline and sharp mind that would define his professional life began to take shape. He also became a lifelong member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, embracing its brotherhood and its call to scholarship and service.

On August 18, 1980, Willie began what would become a distinguished 32-year career at Central State Hospital, retiring on March 1, 2012. Over those three decades he rose through positions of increasing trust and responsibility — Personnel Analyst, Business Manager of Long Term Care, Affirmative Action Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Administration, Interim Director of Food Service, Compliance Officer, Interim Human Resource Director, and Support Services Director. Colleagues who worked alongside him remember an honest, dedicated servant-leader, one who managed people and processes with equal care and who left behind not just a record of service but a circle of lifelong friendships.

Retirement from the hospital did not slow Willie down — it simply opened the door to a second career. Alongside his business partner, he founded D & E Tax Services, which grew into Davis Income and Tax Accounting Service, a firm he built and led for more than twenty-five years, becoming a trusted name for individuals and families across Milledgeville seeking sound financial guidance. And even as he ran his own business, he still found room to give more of himself to his community. He served as Chairman of the Board of the Downtown Development Authority and as a member of the Revolving Loan Fund Committee, brought his financial wisdom to Habitat for Humanity of Milledgeville as Treasurer, and helped lay the groundwork that ultimately brought the Boys and Girls Club to Milledgeville. Wherever a board needed steady judgment or a community needed an advocate, Willie showed up.

What made Willie, Jr. remarkable was not any single title or achievement, but the sheer breadth of lives he touched — family, clients, classmates, fraternity brothers, colleagues, customers, and neighbors throughout Milledgeville, Baldwin County, and the greater Georgia community. He was, by every account, a man of his word: dependable in business, faithful in ministry, and generous with his time long after most would have called it enough.

On July 10, 2026, Willie, Jr. was welcomed home, surrounded by the peace of a life well spent in service to God and others. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted parents, Deacon Willie R. Davis, Sr. and Mother Doris H. Davis; his brother and sister-in-law, Christopher and Towanda Davis; and an especially cherished niece, Kameryn, all of Tallahassee, Florida. He also leaves behind a host of extended family, fraternity brothers, colleagues, clients, and friends whose lives were made richer for having known him.

Deacon Willie R. Davis, Jr. gave his life to service — in the church, in the workplace, and in his community — and in doing so, he built something that outlasts any single career or title: a legacy of faithfulness. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
