It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater’s Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Deacon Jimmy L. Hicks, 84, of Milledgeville, Georgia. Deacon Hicks passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 13, 2021 at 1:00 PM from the Green Pasture Baptist Church, Milledgeville, Georgia. Interment followed in the Scenic Memorial Gardens, Milledgeville, Georgia.
Deacon Jimmy Lee Hicks' affectionately known as “Pop” entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. Deacon Hicks' life began on January 15, 1937 to the parents of the late Ed and Luvenia Hicks in Milledgeville, Georgia. Deacon Hicks received his education from Eddy School and Carver High School in Milledgeville, Georgia. He was a member of the Green Pastures Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon board . He was a member of the Baldwin Lodge #159. He was also a retiree of the Central State Hospital where he served faithfully for many years. Deacon Hicks met the love of his life, Janie Arnold, in 1994. Deacon Hicks was joined in Holy Matrimony with Mrs. Janie Hicks on June 25, 1995 . Pop was a family man and a provider who loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great- grands. In the latter years of his life, he was able to sit back and enjoy the fruits of his labor. Pop enjoyed eating all of his wife's favorite foods; especially her cakes and pies. He also enjoyed watching his westerns, baseball, and football. Most importantly, he enjoyed telling the world about how great GOD was to him. Deacon Hicks is survived by his loving wife Janie Mae Hicks, four sons: Edward (Pamela) Arnold, James (Kiara) Hicks, Shavis Hicks, and Marketh Hicks; five daughters: Jackie (Earl) Caruthers, Janice (Anthony) Williams, Tiara Hicks, Aaliyah Hicks and Laquisha Sanford; eleven grandchildren; Felicia (Meiontaye) Brooks, Alicia Brooks, Larry Cleveland, Teresa Cleveland, Earl Caruthers, Aaron Caruthers, Asa Caruthers, Lashonda Simmons, Candance Simmons, Shania Hicks, and Kinsley Hicks. 15 great-grandchildren, one great, great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Pop is also survived by devoted nieces and in-laws, Linda Diane Franklin, Valeka Harden and Wilma Love.
