It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater's Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Mr. James Simmons, Haddock, Georgia. Deacon "Hen" Simmons passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2022.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at 11:00 A.M from the County Line Baptist Church Milledgeville, Georgia. Interment to follow from the County Line Baptist Church cemetery Milledgeville, Georgia.
Deacon James Louis Simmons, Sr. also known as “Hen” was born in Haddock, Georgia on March 22,1940 to the parentage of the late William Simmons, Sr. and the late Carrie Bell Simmons. He was educated in the Jones County School system.
At an early age he joined County Line Baptist Church where he later served as a faithful member of the Male Choir, Usher, and was part of the Booster Club. He joined the Deacon Board in 2005 under the leadership of Pastor Glover. Heal so was responsible for cutting the grass at the church until his health failed.
He retired from Cherokee Product Company in Haddock, Georgia. He was a member of the Sons of Wisdom and the daughters of Light Society. Deacon Simmons loved farming and raising cows & hogs. Deacon Simmons was joined in matrimony to his wife Eula Mae Curry of 56 years on October 24, 1966.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by bother: David Simmons, Julian Simmons, Williams Simmons, Otis Simmons, Earl Simmons, George Greene, Eugene Green, Le- Royal Simmons, Bennie Simmons & James Curry; Sisters, Alma Middlebrooks, Dallas Curry, Carrie Jean Simmons, Alice M Wilson, Willie M. Wright, Ida M. Robie, Mattie B. Hamilton and Louise Austin.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Eula Mae Simmons; four sons, James Louis Simmons, Jr., Tony Jerome Simmons, Troy Bernard Simmons and Michael Craig Simmons; five grandchildren thirteen great-grandchildren; one Goddaughter, Dorothy Allen; one sister, Helen Hill of Macon, Georgia; two brothers, Larry Simmons and Arthur Simmons, both of Milledgeville, Georgia. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
