It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater's Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Mr. Claude Harper Sr., Milledgeville, Georgia. Mr. Harper passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.

Graveside services were held Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 2:00PM from the St. Luke Baptist Church Cemetery, Sparta, Georgia.

Mr. Claude Harper, Sr. was born on December25,1937 to the parentage of Mr. Sam and Mrs. Mary Simmons Harper. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters (Juanita Choice, Aretha Pearl Justice) and brothers (Linton Harper, Carlyle Harper, S.D. Harper, Sr.) His education was obtained in Hancock County. On August 30,1958 he married the love of his life, Catherine Williams and to this union seven children were born. 

Claude joined St. Luke Baptist Church later in life and was a faithful member until his health failed. He was a hard worker during his tenure of life. He worked several jobs including the Brick Yard, self-employed in the pulpwood business for many years and Rheem Manufacturing Company for seventeen years until his retirement in 2004.

 Claude was a quiet, shy, gentleman and warmed the hearts of many with his smile. He enjoyed working in his garden, going to church, listening to music(gospel/blues), fast cars and fiddling around with his guitar. He enjoyed times of laughter with family and friends. He held in his heart a special place for his spouse, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His birthday was filled with much happiness and joy as he was born on Christmas Day, he knew family would shower him with many gifts and birthday wishes. Claude had a great love for soul food especially friend corn, okra, butter beans and peas.


Claude leaves to cherish his memories are his lovely wife of 64 years, Catherine Williams Harper; 2 daughters, Brenda (Rev Elijah) Barnes of Sparta, Ga., Jacquelyn Harper of Milledgeville, Ga; 5 sons, Tora (Cutina) Harper, Tracy (Beverly) Harper, Barrett Harper of Milledgeville, Ga., Michael Harper of Macon, Ga., Claude Harper Jr. of Sparta, Ga.; 2 sisters, Alice (Flemister) Simmons of Sparta, Ga., Catherine Goodman of Milledgeville, Ga.; A devoted grandson, Jaquais Davis; brother- in-laws, Edward Williams of Sparta, Ga., William Daniels of Augusta, Ga.; sister-in-law, Sadie Jefferson of Augusta, Ga.; several grandchildren, great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
