Calvin Hill Obituary

Mr. Calvin Hill, of 1844 Timberlane Court, Milledgeville, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at his residence.

Funeral services were held on Monday, January 13, 2020 at 11:00 AM from the Victory Baptist Church, Milledgeville, Georgia. Interment followed in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Milledgeville, Georgia.

Calvin Hill, Sr. peacefully took his rest and gained his wings on Tuesday, January 7, 2020. He was born in Milledgeville, Georgia on February 15, 1955, to the parents of Ruby Hood Hill and the late Tigner Hill, Jr.

Calvin possessed a beautiful soul, was an EXTRAordinary man and a true pillar of our community. He stood on the frontline for our freedom as a United States Army solider, and was always there for not only the people in which he loved, but for those in which he did not know.  If asked, there was never any hesitation, he did everything he could to ensure those around him were taken care of.  “Chill, Jumpmaster or Sergeant Major”, as affectionately called by friends and former cadets, became a father figure to many individuals; from the barracks of Georgia Military College to the streets of Milledgeville, Georgia. As a Junior College Tactical Officer, Calvin always put the needs of the cadets first in everything he did, and no matter what the issue, he was there to fix the problem. He lifted the spirits of many when they were down and gave tough love to those when they needed it. In his sixteen years of service at Georgia Military College he encouraged those around him to put others before themselves and never back down from a challenge. We will miss Calvin’s infectious smile, clever jokes, unique laughter and his feisty personality. He will forever be a mentor to many, and the only person known for shining his tennis shoes. Greatly missed he will be not only in the Milledgeville community but in many others.

He leaves behind his loyal wife and best friend, Cathy Hill; three sons: Don (Pearla) Hill, Calvin Hill Jr., Lamarcus Hill; seven stepchildren: April Stanton, Ireland Stanton, April (Tyrone) Adams, Michael Adams, Adrienne (Cory) Lyles, James Burton,  LaGennie Burton; two brothers, Melvin Hill (Gladys), Eric (Lakesha) Hill; four sisters: Patricia (Bruce) Chatman, Carolyn Hill (Willie), Tina (Dwain) Huff, Cynthia (John) Walker; one uncle Cleveland Hurt Sr.; one aunt, Pennie Burch; twenty-three grandchildren, (including his deceased granddaughter, Jasmine Nicole Hill), one great grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends that will always cherish his memories. He was a member of the American Legion Post 523, Legion Riders and President and co-founder of the Milledgeville Cruisers Motorcycle Club.
