It is with sympathy, the management and staff of Slater’s Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Mr. Brown "KOOL" Marshall, Jr., 91, of Milledgeville, Georgia. Mr. Marshall passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022.
Graveside services were held on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 1:00 PM from the St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Sparta, Georgia.
Mr. Brown “Kool” Marshall, Jr. was born April 27, 1930, to Mary Lee Marshall and Frank Roberson. He was preceded in death by his parents, several sisters (Lucy Mae Roberson, Annie Laura Marshall) and brothers (Joe Marshall, Walter Marshall, Tommie Lee Marshall). His education was obtained in Hancock County. He received additional education at Georgia College and State University. Brown joined the church at an early age with Second Beulah Baptist Church, as a member. He was employed with Georgia College and State University, retiring with 35 years of faithful service. He also worked 25 years for Griffin Pipe Company. “Kool” lived a most humble life. He started working at an early age until retiring in his 80's. He loved baseball and basketball. He was a huge fan and cheerleader for Georgia College and State University basketball and baseball faithful fans. His favorite baseball team was the Atlanta Braves. He was a Prince Hall Mason. He had a host of favorite foods that he enjoyed, such as sweet potato pie, caramel cake, Baby Ruth, and a good hot dog and cold drink. He was a good provider to all. Children were very precious to him. His favorite quote was “Be Cool”. He called everyone he met “cool”. He served as Grand Marshal on several occasions during the Christmas parades in Milledgeville, GA. He loved wearing Dickies work khakis. He loved westerns, his favorite western stars where Woody Strode, Clint Eastwood. He was a chevy man of his lifetime he only owned four vehicles, which he took care of with great passion. He was a man of wisdom, good character, and strength. He was a well-dressed man when it was time to dress up. He traveled and worked in several cities which includes Philadelphia, Detroit, Atlanta, Saginaw, and New York before returning home to work for Griffin Pipe Company. He was a hardworking faithful employee; it was rare that he missed anytime for work. He was dedicated and loyal. He never complained, he endured. He would say “never pray for an easy life but to endure life.” Mr. Marshall leaves to cherish his devoted sister, Elizabeth Roberson; loyal nephew, Jerome Marshall; a dedicated sister-in-law, Evelyn Marshall; genuine cousin, Darlene Marshall; generous cousin, Jessie Roberson; faithful caregiver, Joann Dennis of 12 years and her family which he cherished as his own, Terrance, April, Monique, Nickya, Jazmeia, Shakyla, Denarius; honorary friend, Ruby Justice; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
