Bobby Hightower Obituary

Bobby Gene Hightower was born August 24, 1943, to the parentage of Ester Hightower and Richard Hightower, Sr. He was the oldest of his siblings. He took his role as big brother very seriously. He was a strong support helping his mother to raise his sisters and brothers.

Bobby was educated in the Baldwin County public school system. After graduating from high school, he extended his education by attending Fort Valley State University. He was later drafted in the United States Military where he served in the Army. He was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal and was also a sharpshooter. He was honorably discharged. He was an Army Veteran.  Bobby later began working as a faithful employee of Engelhard Corporation. Engelhard recognized his commitment to excellence; there he was promoted to and retired as a supervisor.

Bobby was a Christian who attended Coopers Hill Baptist Church for many years. Bobby, affectionately called “Bye” by his family and friends, was joined in holy matrimony to Ola Bell Hurt on August 22, 1972. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

After retirement he enjoyed the simpler things in life. If he wasn’t spending time with his grandchildren, he was watching football or a good ole western on TV. He spent many leisurely days shopping at Kroger and Wal-Mart, looking for the best deals he could find.

One of his favorite lines would be “Come Again”? When he said this, he would want you to repeat yourself. His children would laugh at what they called his “selective hearing”.  He will be truly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ossie Hightower; son-in-law, Rodney James.

He leaves cherished memories to his wife, Ola Bell Hightower; children, Marcello Hurt, Celena James, Bobby (Michelle) Hightower, Jr., April Hightower and Muriel (Rev. Lee) Reynolds; two stepchildren, Lisa Lingo and Ira Lingo; all of Georgia. Fifteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sisters, Lena Mae Bundrage, Lillie Mae Hightower, Rubie Randall, Carol Crawford, Ester Yvonne Hightower, Cheryl (Carl) Ware, and Lillie Mae Jones; brothers, Richard (Geneva) Hightower, Jr., Terry Hightower, all of Georgia; aunt, Magnolia Lowe, Tempie Marie Lowe; uncle, Edward Jones, all of Florida.; he has one devoted friend, Frank Ward and his beloved Burger King Crew. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
