Alonzo Burney, known to all who loved him as "Lonnie", was born on September 21, 1964 in Baldwin County to his parents Lucille Burney and Charles Richard Burney, Sr. (who preceded him in death). Lonnie was an upstanding hard working man of integrity. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, mentor and a friend to many. He loved his children and grandchildren. He loved to be outdoors, laughing, fishing, and watching sports. He had such a kind heart and never judged by their situation but only by what was in their hearts. He believed in us all even when we had a hard time believing in ourselves. After graduation high school, he joined the US Navy as a Machinist's Mate. He then married high school sweetheart, Wendy Stephens Burney, in Holy matrimony on January 1984. Four children and four grandchildren were born into their union: La-Shonda, Lamerious (daughters: Ki'asjah Burney and Tory Larkin), Briana(husband: Keith E. Brock, Jr. and their son Keith E. Brock III), and Brittany Burney (son: Omari J. Washington). After honorably serving his country, he worked at Georgia Dept. of Corrections and then on to Fowler Flemister Concrete, Inc. where he retired. On July 28, 2021 he gained his wings and transitioned to his heavenly home. Lonnie is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, mother; Brothers, Charles Burney, Jr., Clarence Burney, Sr., Reginald (Nikki) Burney; one sister, Dorothy (Daryll) Wilson, sister in laws, a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends who all cherish his memory.
