Mrs. Rosie B. Finney, better known as “Mary”, departed this life on Monday, September 3, 2018 at her residence in Haddock, Georgia. Rosie Beatrice Simmons Finney was born May 31, 1932 to the late Fred Walter, Sr. and the late Ollie Mae Simmons. She was the oldest girl of eight children of that union. “Mary”, as she was fondly known, was preceded in death by brothers, Willie Turner, Sr., Fred W. She was a graduate of the Jones County Public School System and later employed with Jones County Schools. Rosie was a cosmetologist, an entrepreneur and retired from Baldwin County Hospital in Milledgeville, Georgia after more than twenty (20) years of service. However, her greatest professional was that of being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
“Mary” was a lifelong member of Holts Chapel AME Church in Haddock, Georgia and an active member of the Simmons Beauty Chapter No. 187 Order of Eastern Star Gray, Georgia until her health failed her. She served as Stewardess Pro-Tem for Holts Chapel AME Church until it was closed.
On February 18, 1956, “Mary” was united in holy matrimony to James Tarver Finney. Together they shared sixty-two years of their lives to “what God has joined together, let no man put asunder.” To this union, six girls were born.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her husband, James Tarver Finney, six daughters: LaJoyce of Haddock, GA, TiaJuana of Warner Robins, GA, Evette of Athens, GA, Tammie of Valdosta, GA, Donna (Rickey), Shakendra of Macon, GA; two sisters: Evelyn L.
